Sofia Kinnas Obituary

Sofia Kinnas, age 91, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her home with her daughter by her side, on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006. Sofia was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Passio, Korinthias, Greece, to the parents of Konstantinos and Aggelike Trimi. At thirty-four, Sofia emigrated from Greece to America and married Nicholas D. Kinnas on Jan. 16, 1949, in Chicago, IL. They moved to Marsing, Idaho, and eventually to Boise where they lived ever since. Like many others in her day, our mom stayed home to raise her children. She worked tirelessly in her garden to make sure we had enough to eat; there was rarely a shortage of zucchini, corn and string beans to help us through the winter. Mom worked just as hard inside: to her, poor did not mean dirty. Our elbows were scrubbed routinely and our clothes washed by hand in the bathtub. She was a giver. Greek pastries were her specialty and she shared generously with her family, friends and neighbors. She made communion bread regularly for the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where she attended. Mom was devoted to her faith, to her husband, to her children and to her grandchildren. As for her schooling, she had a fourth-grade education in Greece, yet she was far advanced in her wisdom. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She is survived by her children, Demetrios ÒJimÓ N. (Jan) Kinnas; Constantine ÒGusÓ N. (Ginny) Kinnas; Vaseliki ÒBetsyÓ (Earl) Cook all of Boise; Panayiotis ÒPeteÓ N. Kinnas of Farmington, New Mexico; she is also survived by her five grandsons, Nicholas, Taso, Benjamin, Andrew, and William all of Boise. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas D. Kinnas. Trisagion (Memorial Service) will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at Cloverdale Funeral Home located at 1200 North Cloverdale Road, Boise. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church located at 2618 West Bannock St., Boise, Idaho. Graveside service will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sts Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2618 W. Bannock St., Boise, ID, 83702 or to St. Luke´s Hospice, 325 W. Idaho, Boise, ID 83712.
