Meridian, Idaho - Terry Amos, age 72, passed away Sunday December 27, 2020 at his home.
Terry was born February 16, 1948, in Pocatello, Idaho to George H. and Donna Craig Amos. He graduated from Borah High School in 1966. He also attended Twin Falls High School. During his high school years he lettered in football and wrestling and was a member of key club. He joined the Idaho Army National Guard in March 1966 and was sworn into Army by Captain George Amos, his Dad. He attended basic training in Ft. Lewis WA, advanced army training with the 101st Abn Division at Ft. Campbell, KY in 1966. He graduated from the 6th Army Non-Commissioned Officers Academy in March 1967 and the Army Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School in May 1967 and was commissioned and sworn in by Captain George Amos as a second Lieutenant in the US army and the Idaho Army National Guard in June 1967. He served on active duty for three years, including combat in Viet Nam and Cambodia, serving as an Armored Cavalry Platoon Leader and Troop Executive Officer.
After returning from Viet Nam he attended Boise State University and received a Bachelor of business administrating in marketing in December 1973 and joined the Idaho first national bank officer training program. While at Boise State, he met his first wife Cynthia M. Bertram who was also attending BSU. They were married in September 1972. They were blessed by the births of their two children: Sarah Ann and Brady Craig. They were later divorced. On April 20, 1933, Terry Married Linda Anderson-Amos in McCall Idaho. They spent their years together in Meridian and McCall, until Linda's death in 2001. Terry married Janet Claire Barbour in Meridian in 2004 and lived in Meridian until Janet's death in 2012.
He retired from the army in 2000, attaining the rank of Colonel with 34 years of service and was the 204th Training Regimental Commander at Gowen Field. He served in various positions throughout his military career. Platoon leader, Executive Officer, Operations Officer, State Transportation Officer, and Commandant of the Idaho Military Academy. He holds the rank of Brigadier General in the Idaho Army National Guard. He served in the Guard in Homedale, Caldwell, Payette, Weiser, Emmett, and Boise. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Three Bronze Stars, two for heroism, two Army accommodation medals, one for heroism, Army achievement medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Idaho Service Ribbon, Overseas Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal and Viet Nam Cross of Gallantry Medal.
He retired from banking in 2006 and was the Vice President and Manager of Farmers and Merchant State Bank. He worked in banking for 33 years with Idaho First National/West One/Us Bank and Farmers and Merchant State Bank. During that time he managed bank offices in the treasure valley for over 20 years and in addition, served in various lending positions including consumer and commercial lending, agricultural lending, SBA, residential and commercial real estate lending. He had been working part time as a bank consultant. He was an Idaho Native born in eastern Idaho and raised in the magic valley and treasure valley.
He is survived by his daughter Sara Carver, and children Alyssa, Jaron and Caleb in Sherman TX; son and daughter-in-law Brady and Brittany and children Kyra and Kaiden in Meridian; Linda's Daughter Elizabeth Moore; Janet's son Joe and children, Jeffrey and Brandon and her daughter Charlene and children, Brennan and Braylee. Sisters Nancy (Charles) Roundtree, Mariann (David) Webber and Rebecca (Scott) Stuart; Brothers Geoff (Rochelle) Amos and Gary Babbit; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
