Timothy Patterson Obituary
Timothy C. Patterson
May 18, 1955 - July 12, 2021
Boulder, Colorado - Our much-loved Tim passed away suddenly on the morning of July 12, 2021, near Boulder, Colorado. His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts and an empty spot in our lives.
Tim was born in Boise, Idaho on May 18, 1955, to Richard "Pat" Patterson and Joan Morse Patterson, joining his older sister, Paige. Five years later his younger sister Tracy rounded out the family. Tim attended Lowell Elementary School, North Junior High and Boise High School, graduating in 1973. He went on to attend BSU and graduated from the University of Wyoming.
Like his own father, Tim's first passion was baseball. He played all through Jr High and High School. His last team being the Boise Gems American Legion. Mick McConnell and Rich Urresti had their hands full with this rowdy, but talented bunch of boys.
Tim discovered downhill skiing in Jr High and a natural transition to racing took off from there. He raced for Bogus Basin with the PNSA. He continued to race for BSU with his lifelong friend Bill Shaw. They both transferred to the University of Wyoming to race and to finish their degrees. Tim remained an avid Cowboys fan the rest of his life. After college he moved into a career in the ski industry working many years for Raichle-Molitor where he made a multitude of lifelong friends. He was married to one of his fellow racers and good friend, Kim Reichhelm.
Tim was an entrepreneur that created several businesses in his lifetime. He was always working towards the next cutting-edge idea.
He later married Andrea Von Barby. They lived in Boulder, Colorado where they raised their two sons, TJ and Malcolm. The boys were the absolute highlight and pride of his life. Tim loved his sons passionately and supported them in everything they did. Football was big in the family and Tim attended all their games becoming an avid fan of CU football. Both of his sons graduating with degrees from CU was a huge source of pride for him.
Tim, known as TP by many, was a huge spirit. Everything he did he did with unbridled gusto. He was a baseball player, skier, entrepreneur, golfer, father, loyal family member and a fierce friend. His quick wit and unforgettable laugh will always be remembered. He was fun loving and joyous and much bigger than life. Tim loved his entire family ferociously, offering support and humor to us all in his daily phone calls. He loved music and had developed an appreciation for flowers. He sent many pictures of his purple and white Clematis and he loved bouquets of lilies.
Stories about his antics will be told for years to come. It is very difficult for his family and friends to lose him. We will love and miss him always. Tim will always be the light of Mom's life.
Tim was preceded in death by his Grandparents, his father, Richard E. Patterson and his bonus father Charles D. Butler.
He is survived by his two sons, TJ Patterson and Malcolm Patterson, his former wife Andrea Von Barby, his mother Joan Butler, sister Paige Matlock, sister Tracy McKinney (Jerry). Nephews Nathan Matlock, Clayton McKinney, Christopher McKinney, nieces Erin Matlock Reeve (Jonathan) and Ann Matlock and three Great Nephews, Jack, Barrett and Finn. His Uncle Richard Morse and Aunt Linda. Bonus brothers and sisters, Diane and Jerry McLean, Scott and Suzi Butler and Mark and Lisa Butler. He had a special friendship with his cousin Greg Patterson and long-time friend Kelly Breen.
A celebration of Tim's life will be held in Boise on Friday, September 24 from 4-7 PM at the Stone House, 709 E Park Blvd.
