Wayne Crosby Obituary

Wayne H. Crosby Wayne H. Crosby, 73, of Eagle, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home. Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. A viewing will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel. Wayne entered the world Aug. 12, 1935 in Picher, Okla., the son of Raymond and Irene (Cummings) Crosby. He was the eighth of nine children. His mother died when he was about two-and-a-half years old and was raised by his other family members and friends. He was always very grateful to all who helped him in his younger years. Most of his grade school years were spent in Emmett with a few years in New Plymouth. He graduated from Emmett High School in 1954. Wayne excelled in football and track. He was small but fast and was voted Outstanding Senior Athlete. He was also elected Student Body President. After two years at the University of Idaho, he decided to enter the College of Pharmacy at Idaho State University, where he obtained a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy in 1960. He took a job at Caldwell Drug Center where he met his wife to be, Jane Buller. They were married June 12, 1963 in Middleton, Idaho on the lawn of her parents home. His earlier years also included work in pharmacies in Sun Valley, Idaho, Waco, Texas, and Noland Drug in Emmett, Idaho. Wayne bought Orville Jackson's Eagle Drug Store in Eagle in 1974. It was his goal to take the old business to 100 years; which he achieved, closing the store in 2006. He was active in his community serving on several boards and commissions. One of his accomplishments was that he initiated and spearheaded the drive to build the Eagle Senior Center/Community Hall / City Hall complex building. In 2006, Wayne and Jane were presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by Eagle Mayor Nancy Merrill. He was twice named as Pharmacist of the Year by the Idaho State Pharmaceutical Association in 1988 and 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bill and Jack; and sisters Dorothy and Margie. He is survived by his loving wife Jane of 45 years; daughters Julie(Mark) Whistler, and Rena Kay Hensen and son Daniel Crosby; brothers Dale Crosby of Boise, Idaho, Richard Crosby of Pendleton, Ore. and Raymond Howey of Salina, Kan.; sister Maudie Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two grandsons Adam and Jake, whom he so much enjoyed. Fall was his favorite season of the year, probably because football season started. Memorials can be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch or a cause of your choice.

Dear Jane and family,
I am so very sad to learn of Wayne's passing. He was such a vibrant center of the community in Eagle, Idaho when we lived there.
I have lots of happy memories of working on The Eagle Disaster Auction every spring with Wayne. He worked so hard to give back to that little town. I hope there are lots of appreciative people who will remember Wayne as a great contributer to all the town's activities.
I shouldn't neglect the fact that he was our pharmacist who, on several occasions.......filled prescriptions for our children at inconvenient times!
Dick and I are so sad to hear that he has passed away at such a young age.
Affectionately,

Jon Fisher

Dear Jane and family,
Growing up, I spent many a day going to get comics and candy at Orville Jacksons, all the while needing to actually get my prescriptions. Wayne was always smiling any time I came in and he would always give me a treat. Even when I got in to high school he was always going out of his way to try and give me some candy. After moving away, when passing through on vacations, I would stop in to say Hi. He would take time to chat and catch up with what had been happening with me and my family. Wayne will be missed greatly. He helped make Eagle what it is today. Our thought are with you and your family.

Dear Danny, Rena & Jane,
I look back on the time when I grew up in Eagle with very fond memories. Many of those memories are of me sitting on the stools in Orville Jacksons & Mr Crosby giving me candy & always having a smile on his face. I always felt welcome at the store & in your home. I am so saddened to hear that Wayne is gone. He touched so many people, he gave Eagle that small town 'feel' & his memory will always live on.
Sincerely,
Krista Fisher

Dear Jane and family - I would have been to Wayne's services if I had heard in time. I remember you as young marrieds and new parents and it seemed your marriage never lost that sparkle. Praying our Lord Jesus will wrap you in His loving arms and comfort you until that glorious reunion.

Rena and I were best friends growing up and I spent a great deal of time and Wayne and Jane's home during those years. They always made me feel welcome and included me in all the family activities. Now that I have a home of my own I remember this example of generosity and community and try to live by every day. I wonder how often Wayne gave a sick person medication when they didn't have the money to pay him right away? Or at all? His commitment to his family and to the community of Eagle is something we can all learn from. You will be missed.

Jane and family, Although I didn't know Wayne really well, he always had a smile and a kind word whenever I was in his presence. What a great man God gave you. I know that God is right there with you all, and now you have your very own guardian angel to watch over you. Jane, I love you so much and cherish our friendship, I'll be there whenever you need me day or night.

Eagle lost a great citizen this week. He and Jane will not be forgotten by those of us who have lived in Eagle for many years, and remember with fondness their faces behind the counter at Eagle Drug Store.

Wayne and Jane Crosby are so much a part of my family. My mother worked at Orville Jacksons. When she was diagnosed with cancer, Wayne and Jane where alway there for her and for us. God blessed Wayne and all he did for my family and for Eagle. God's light shined on him and his family. May God keep his family in his hands, in his heart.

Wayne was the epitome of good citizenship--
kind, neighborly, always ready to help. The community has lost a great and irreplaceable light. How privileged we are to have known him. Our deep sympathy to Jane and the family.

My grandson Jarrod still talks about "the nice man who would give me gummy worms when I'd go into his store!" Whenever I buy candy for my grandkids I think about you, Wayne :) You've been a part of my life for 30 years and you'll be greatly missed.

My love to everyone in your family.
