Wesley Isaac Lyons of Boise, Idaho passed away on July 30, 2016. He was 98 years old.
Wesley was born to Oscar and Isabel Lyons on March 4, 1918 at Lucasville, Ohio. In 1939, at the age of twenty-one, he joined the Army Air Force and did a tour of duty in Panama and Guatemala, returning to the United States in 1943. He married the love of his life, Carol Howry of Boise, Idaho, on June 26, 1943, returning to Italy for the duration of World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Mediterranean. Afterward, he left the military for a brief period, working for Idaho Hardware of Boise, Idaho, before accepting a post with the Idaho Air National Guard as a civilian employee. He was called back to active duty during the Korean war spending time in Valdosta, Georgia and Victorville, California, later returning to his Boise base at Gowen Field.
After 34 years of military service, Wesley retired. He and his late wife Carol spent much of their retirement traveling and enjoying their vacation homes in McCall, Idaho and Sun City, Arizona before she passed away in 1996.
He later met Lorraine Smith of Boise, Idaho and enjoyed her companionship in his twilight years before relocating to Lewiston, Idaho to be with his family.
Wesley was a licensed pilot and loved flying small planes. He also loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and mechanics.
A member of the United Methodist church, Wesley is survived by his two daughters, Elaine Bolen of Waco, Texas and Judy Wohlert of Lapwai, Idaho and a brother, Clarence Lyons of Lucasville, Ohio. He had five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Cloverdale Memorial Cemetery on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. with a reception immediately following.
