Wesley Sherrill Obituary

Wesley Francis Sherrill died on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 at his home in Boise at the age of 83. Funeral services will be on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel. Burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. also at Summers Funeral Homes in Boise. Wes was born in a farm house on Dry Creek Aug. 1, 1923 to Charles B. and Mary Elizabeth Chapman Sherrill. He went to Park, Lowell, North Junior High, and Franklin High School. He joined the Idaho National Guard Cavalry when he was 16 then transferred to the regular army in Chehalis, Wash., where he was assigned to the water purification detail. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was in San Diego and attended metal smith school in Dearborn, Mich. He was then assigned to the Lighter-than-air (LTA) Squadron 51 and stationed on the east coast as well as South America as submarine patrol. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He was later recalled to the Korean Conflict in 1950 for a few months. He married Grace Johnson in 1945 and was later divorced. He married Janet Tucker in 1967. Wes was in Dale Carnegie, Kiwanis, and was a Boy Scout leader for 16 years and adult scouting for 10 years receiving the Silver Beaver award. He attended Wood Badge in 1966 and lead Troop 30 to the World Jamboree in Farragut, Idaho in 1969. Wes was a carpenter and salesman for Bertram Heating, Boise Heating and Intermountain Gas Co. and Farmers Insurance. He worked on Anderson Ranch and Lucky Peak dams. Wes retired from Boise City as Chief Building Inspector. He was the first certified building inspector in the state of Idaho and later helped his men become certified inspectors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and his hobbies included taxidermy, horn mounting, tanning deer and elk hides as well as many other animals. He did a lot of wood working and enjoyed making diamond willow canes until his health declined. Wes is survived by his wife, Janet of Boise; sons, Wesley J. (Linda) of Moose Pass, Alaska and David of Boise, Idaho; his daughters, Janet L. Sherrill of Coeur d´Alene, Idaho, Linda D. Paige (Claude), and Sandra L. Tower (Raymond) of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by his step-children, Shelly Givens (Bruce), Kenneth Tucker and Brent Tucker (Carole) of Boise and Carol Adams (Rob) of Kansas; his sister Sue Peebler (Hap) of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho; nine grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Wes was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Byron, George, Clyde, and Lester; and his sister, Connie Dilworth. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mountain States Tumor Institute, 190 E. Bannock Street, Boise, Idaho 83712.

Janet,

I was so sorry to read of Wes's passing. I will always treasure my memories of the Gas Co, and Wes and my hunting and fishing trips. He was an idol of mine, not just because of his sharing his outdoor knowledge but most importantly becasue of his honesty, and integrity.
