I remembered a few more things since my previous comment.
When we played run-across during recess, it was actually called "21 run-across." One of us would be chosen to be "it," and that would be the person who tries to catch the others as they run across. Once a person running across is tapped, then he would be "out," until all are out and we start over.
There would be several running across at the same time, so it's like the old rule that "you don't have to out-run the bear, just the other people." The one who is "it" would first count to 21 to give everyone a chance to reach one of the fences before starting.
I remember Eddie Piaskowski in connection with this game more than anyone else, because he was the chief organizer. He would invite each of us personally to join the group, and get it going.
In order to choose who is "it," we would stand in a circle, and Eddie or someone else would say a rhyme and point to each one of us in turn as each word was said. The rhyme was this:
"Sky blue, sky blue, who's it? Not you."
Whoever was pointed to last, (on the word "you"), would step out of the circle, and the leader would say the rhyme again until only one is left, and that one is "it."
The "Sky Blue" reference is how he got the name of his first band, "Blue Sky."
The way he pronounced his name was a little bit different than most of us said it. "Piaskowski" fits the rhythm of "See us NOW ski," with a special emphasis on the third syllable.

I like to get things correct. I'm not sure if it's "Eddy" or "Eddie." In any case, I knew him at St. Mary's. This would have been in the 4th or 5th grade, give or take a year.
Unfortunately, I don't have class pictures of those years. But I do have a small, grainy picture of him from the 2nd grade First Communion picture, which combined more than one classroom.
We used to play a game during recess called "run across." Our recess was in the church parking lot, (without any cars in it), and we would run across from one fence to the other, between the cemetery and the street. One would be chosen to "catch" those running across. I don't remember the exact rules of the game, but I know that there were several of us there, and it became a common thing to do during recess for a couple of years.
Some of us were playing at home with electro-magnets, wrapping heavy magnet wire from an old motor around a bolt, and hooking it up to a large lantern battery. There was a trick where the electro-magnet could be mounted into a steel food can with cardboard, and hooked up to a speaker output. It would have been in the 5th or 6th grade, I got a phone call from Eddie Piaskowski asking me about this trick of making your own "loudspeaker." I explained it to him, and I said, "Well, it isn't exactly loud, but you can hear it." He was disappointed, because he wanted something more like a P.A. speaker. I guess that is the difference between science and music.
We ended up going to different high schools, so I was not much aware of his musical interest. But later I heard about him and his band Blue Sky, from others that I knew.
There was a notice in the newspaper about a record made by Act Two, available at Englehardt's Music downtown, so I went and bought a copy. I looked him up to ask him about it, thinking that maybe someday I would make my own record. Well, I guess he gave me a couple of good tips on how the process worked.
The record by Act Two, from 1981, features side one as MAGIC LADY, by Brad Kelley, NR13205-1, and side two as SOMETIMES I WONDER, by Ed Piaskowski, NR13205-2. I have copied the label of side two, with the side one information "photoshopped" into the center.
I don't know how well these "indie" records did, but at least you have something physical to show people. It somehow seems more real than a web link.

Sandy, Ronnie, Loretta, Michelle, Mike, Lena, and family - please accept my sincerest condolences. Eddie was a special individual, immensely talented in many ways and extremely charismatic. I'm so grateful we were able to reconnect over the past couple years when we were both doing work for the "Our Town Connection" in Massillon. One night at the studio I happened to have my acoustic guitar with me and I worked up the courage to play him a couple of HIS original songs. He was astounded I still remembered them after decades had passed. It was a special moment for both of us. Ed's presence, music, talent, and friendship were always important to me. We lived together, worked together, laughed together, and even cried together. I'm honored to have been a small part of his life and his music. When I reminisce about the days and nights of Act Two, Harvest Moon, and Essence I realize how special our bond was. I'll never forget Eddy and the countless times we spent together. May God bless your family during this time of grief over his loss. Love, Vince

I lost a brother of Blue Sky today. What a great guitarist and nice person. I will never forget the good times we had in Blue Sky as kids in our teens. Thanks again Eddie for helping me with my computer website and problems. I know your o.k. now as you climbed that "Stairway to Heaven". Whenever I hear that song I will always remember you. Love your drummer and friend, Dave Berens

I'm so sorry to hear about Ed. I have been thinking of stopping by to see him the past couple of weeks. He was on my mind. Eddy P. got me started in DJing weddings many years ago. We spent many days dreaming big dreams for our future back when we were young men. Ed always believed in his friends and encouraged them to be the best they could be. Even though we went our separate ways, I always thought of Ed often and secretly laughed to myself of the goofy fun times we had. I will miss him. My condolences to the Piaskowski family.
