James Summers Obituary

CONCORD - Mr. James "Jay" Ervin Summers, 91, of 344 Rabon St., passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at his home. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church officiated by the Rev. Kathryn Baines. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Wilkinson Funeral Home, and also after the memorial service. Jay was born May 10, 1915, in Cabarrus County to the late Ralph Glenn and Rose Johnson Summers. He was a graduate of Odell High School, served in U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cummings and retired from Gates Tire & Rubber Co. as a manager. He also was a member of the Woodmen of the World, St. James Lutheran Church, the American Legion and worked for Hoover's and Young Men's Shop. Jay was a high-spirited people person. Jay is survived by his wife, Martha Walter Summers; son, James E. Summers Jr. of Charlotte; sisters, Helen Summers and Mary S. Davis, both of Davidson, and Lois S. Kiser of Charlotte; and grandchildren, Alicia Warner and Elizabeth Francis, both of Nevada. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy S. Leavitt and Sarah S. Washam. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church Music Fund, P.O. Box 684 Concord, NC, 28026 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Boy Scout Camp Road, Kannapolis, NC, 28081.
