Robert Nicholson Obituary

CONCORD - Robert (Bob) Nicholson, 71, of Concord, entered eternal rest with our Lord Jesus Christ, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, April 30, 2010, after a long courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He was born on July 31, 1938 to John Corrie and Anita Diamond Nicholson in Bronx, New York. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Peggy Whetzel Nicholson; and his two children, daughter, Michelle Blalock and husband, Richard, and son, Robert Olin Nicholson; his wonderful grandchildren, Jonathan McClellan, Shane Blalock, Megan Blalock, and Kortney Linker whom all loved "Grand-dad" very much. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Burford of Blackstone, Va.; his twin brother, John Corrie Nicholson and his wife, Barbara, of Springfield, Pa., Delsie Whetzel; his loving mother-in-law, of Singers Glen, Va. and loving nieces and nephews. Bob also leaves behind long time friends, Karl Mace, Rufus and Nancy Blackley, Julian and Dorothy McDowell, and his two cats, Furby and Furbelle who were his constant companions. He served in the United States Navy as corpsman and taught at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He was a graduate of La Salle College in Philadelphia, Pa. as an Industrial Engineer. He pursued this career until his retirement. Bob was an avid family historian and a member of the Genealogy Society. His hobbies included photography, coin collecting and history. He will be missed for his quirky sense of humor, hearty laugh and his sparkly blue eyes. The family is grateful to the doctors at Northgate Family Physicians and their staff and the nurses on the heart unit at Northeast Medical Center. Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, 3500 Trinity Church Road, Concord, NC 28027 or Boy Scouts of America at www.scouting.org. The Memorial Service will be held at Northwest Baptist Church on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11a.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. At other times the family will receive friends at the family home. There will be no interment at this time because he gave the gift of donating his body to Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Dept. of Neurobiology and Anatomy.

Bob,

You were my best friend for over 38 years. I loved you as a brother, maybe even more than some brothers. We could spend hours together and never say more than a dozen words. I miss you my friend.
