Ruth Allen Obituary

Ruth Elders Helms Allen

Mrs. Ruth Elders Helms Allen, 93, of Concord, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021.

Ruth was the only child of the late Lemmar and Joel Helms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arthur Allen Sr.; son, Jerome Allen; grandson Rome Allen; and son-in-law, Joe Grey.

Growing up in Concord, Ruth always had very fond, wonderful memories of her youth at Harmony Methodist Church and later as a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she watched all her children grow up.

Although she was employed at Belk and later at Cannon Mills, her life revolved around her family of five children, Angela Sparks, Nancy Allman, Linda Brumley, Judy Grey, and Jerome Allen. She was the strong matriarch of the family and a true Mama Bear when it came to her cubs throughout her life. No one ever escaped a good scolding.

Grandma Ruthie loved her grandchildren and was so very proud of them, as they became their own little people. She spent many hours caring for them, Jennifer Schultz, Lindsay Walker, Emily Phillips, and Candace Wassell; great-grandchildren, Jack Schultz, Lucas Wassell, Johnny Wassell, Sarah Wiar, Preston Mau, and Ethan Walker; great-great-grandchildren, Emery Mau and Hudson Wiar; and still a part of our family is her daughter-in-law, Janice Towell Allen. Many, many family gatherings throughout the years continued to always bring smiles and laughter to brighten her days.

The family would like to thank Cabarrus Hospice, her Care Partners at Brian Center, and especially her dear roommate Clara Jo Wiser for all the love, care, and nurturing she received.

A family graveside service led by the Rev. Thant McManus was held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m., at West Concord Cemetery. Pall bearers were Jack Schultz, Lucas Wassell, Todd Walker, Mike Schultz, Joe Sparks, Darrell Coble, and Steve Brumley. Honorary pall bearers were Johnny Wassell and Ethan Walker.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
