Dale Phillips Obituary
Dr. Dale Cleveland Phillips Dr. Dale C. Phillips, 63, resident of 1522 Old Douglas Mill Road, husband of Martha Cobb Phillips, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at his home. Born January 23, 1955 to the late Roy Phillips and Estoria Anderson Phillips; Dr. Phillips was their eldest child. Phillips was a 1974 graduate of Abbeville High School and thereafter, he joined the United States Navy; serving six years as a Fire Control Technician. During his tenure in the Navy, he served proudly and received several awards for his outstanding service.
Philips graduated from Piedmont Technical College with degrees in Occupational Technology and Industrial Electricity/Electronics in 1981 and 1986. While simultaneously attending college, Phillips worked for Eaton Corporation as a Master Design Engineer; he worked there for 32 years before retiring in 2012.
Dr. Dale Phillips was a member of the Rosicrucian Order, Masonic Order, Prodigal Sons and a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. Phillips was very active in the community; he regularly donated to charitable organizations to help combat abuse against women and children. He also dedicated his time and efforts to helping young black men seek success and avoid the criminal justice system. Phillips volunteered at North Hodges Learning Center to show children a positive male role model.
Dr. Phillips received the 2012 Carver's Apartments Humanitarian Award for outstanding service. He has also written seven books pertaining to religion and spirituality. In conjunction with his written works, he had a brief radio show in Abbeville, SC. As an avid writer, Dr. Phillips wrote several columns for local newspapers detailing the importance of community building and politics. He ran for the South Carolina State Senate, District 10 and has received a plethora of awards and recognition from U.S. political leaders. Dr. Phillips has also received letters of recognition from former First Lady Barbara Bush and former First Lady Michelle Obama. He attended George W. Bush's Inaugural Ball in 2004 and also received recognition from former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 42 years are children, Dale Phillips Jr (Angel), and Kareem H. Phillips (Jamila), two grandchildren Isaiah and Kyrin; four brothers, Curtis, Michael, Calvin and Chris; two sisters, Elaine and Brenda (Cornell) Anderson. He was preceded in death by a son Jamil Phillips and a brother Stanley Philips and a host of aunts and uncles. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and life-long friends to cherish his memory.

Services will be conducted at Long Cane A.M.E. Church Saturday, November 24th 2018 with Rev. Wayman Coleman III officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors. Services will be handled by Brown, Walker and Pierce Funeral Home.
