Danny Price Obituary
Daniel Aaron Price, known affectionately to friends and family as Danny, passed away on October 18, 2024, in his hometown of Ninety Six, South Carolina. Born on July 27, 1947, to the late Charles Marion and Irene Stevens Price, he was a man whose resilience and spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Danny was a beacon of strength from a young age, having contracted polio at just five years old. His family's devotion during this difficult time was palpable, with loved ones often climbing a ladder to catch a glimpse of him through a second floor hospital window. This early trial set the stage for a life characterized by perseverance and determination.
Raised in Ninety Six, Danny attended Ninety Six schools until the ninth grade before transferring to South Carolina Opportunity School, where he graduated in 1967. His faith was an integral part of his life; he joined the First Baptist Church of Ninety Six at a young age and had been a dedicated member of Temple Baptist Church since 1976, serving as a Deacon on numerous occasions.
Danny's work ethic was evident from his earliest days, starting in his father's used auto parts business in Saluda. There, he learned the intricacies of automobile parts-a knowledge that would serve him well throughout his life. His career in the auto industry spanned several roles, including parts salesman for Ben Spelt's Auto Parts, George Ballentine Ford, and Ben's Auto Parts.
However, Danny's true passion lay in the history and genealogy his mother had introduced to him during his childhood and likewise, his love for antiques from which his father gave to him. He channeled this passion into his venture, Magnolia Acres Antiques, where he spent years traveling to New England to acquire pieces and purchasing entire estates. Danny also worked with Hamilton Stuart Fine Antiques in Charlotte, where his keen eye for fine antiques and his expertise as a woodworking craftsman were highly regarded. He crafted beautiful primitive furniture, a craft he continued until his last days, and was also an avid collector of furniture and guns.
Danny's life story echoed the narrative of "The Little Train That Could," embodying the unwavering spirit of never giving up, regardless of the obstacles.
He is survived by his daughter Melanie Price Darley and her husband John; granddaughter, Drew R. Darley; his sister, Jane Price Calhoun; his brothers, Charles A. Price and Allen J. Price; his longtime friend, Patrick Land of Charlotte, who shared many of Danny's interests and supported him through various endeavors; along with his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul D. Price, Thomas M. Price, and Robert S. Price.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 11 am at Temple Baptist Church with interment following in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 am until the hour of the funeral on Tuesday morning in the church sanctuary.
