Helen Douglas Obituary

Helen Wash Douglas, 96, widow of William G. "Bill" Douglas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

A native of Edgefield, SC, Mrs. Douglas was a daughter of the late Julian Talbert Wash Sr. and Rebecca Whatley Wash. She lived in Greenwood and was a homemaker.

Faith and family were very important to her. She loved her church, New Market Baptist, where had been a Children's Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. Her beloved Pomeranians, Penny and Paige, predeceased her.

She is survived by her brother, William Wash of Edgefield; her sister, Frances Wash Jones of Rock Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 68 years, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Wash, Jr. and Harold Wash, and one sister, Carrie Mae Smalley.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at New Market Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Private entombment will be held at Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Danny Smalley, Wayne Smalley, Gary Wash, Barry Wash and Jim Douglas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Market Baptist Church, 906 Ninety Six Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Mrs. Douglas' angels on Earth, Belle Cooper, Stacey Burnett, Tamiko Holladay, and Shirley Jones.
