Herbert Anderson Obituary
Born in Greenwood, October 14, 1936, he was a son of the late Herbert Anderson, Sr. and Lillie Murphy Anderson. Mr. Anderson was the founder and current Chairman of the Board of Herbert R. Anderson, Jr. Construction, Inc., a major Western South Carolina grading contractor, and Emerald Investments, Inc.. He was also active in real estate development having developed many commercial properties and residential subdivisions including Hunters' Creek and Hunters' Creek Golf and Country Club.
Mr. Anderson and his companies were active in the community including memberships in the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Greenwood Partnership Alliance. For his efforts in expanding employment opportunities in Greenwood, he was recognized as an Economic Ambassador for both Greenwood County and for the State of South Carolina. He was also a former member of the Board of Visitors of the Medical University of South Carolina.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his three children, Herbert Keith Anderson, Kimberly Anderson Hatfield and husband Dr. Asa Hatfield and Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Anderson, all of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Erica Anderson of Greenwood, Erin Marbut of Mississippi, Austin Rivers of Portland, OR, Alix Anderson Patrick and husband Tyler Patrick of Greenwood, Michael Rivers Cape of Charleston, Charles Hunter Cape of Greenwood and Spencer Ray Anderson of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Marbut of Mississippi and Zoe Patrick of Greenwood.
A private funeral service and burial will be held on Monday.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
