Lee Murph Obituary

Lee Stewart Murph, 75, resident of Greenwood, husband of Gail Cox Murph, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at his home.

Born June 22, 1950, in Seneca, he was a son of the late Julian L. Murph and Edna Stewart Murph. He was a graduate of Seneca High School and the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in Forestry. Lee spent more than 50 years working in wood procurement throughout the Upstate of South Carolina and retired from International Paper Company.

He was a current member of Main Street Methodist Church in Abbeville and previously a faithful member of Tranquil United Methodist Church for more than 45 years, serving as church treasurer for 35 of those years.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Gail, he is survived by two sons, Wiley Murph (Julia) of Bluffton, and Leon Murph of Hartsville; one sister, Martha George of Seneca; one brother, Alan Murph of Petersburg, AK; and four grandchildren, Madeline Murph, Taylor Murph, Calhoun Murph, and Reid Murph.

He was predeceased by one grandson, Garrison Murph.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Main Street Methodist Church in Abbeville with the Rev. Brandon Fulmer officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Green Center of the church.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Main Street Methodist Church, P.O. Box 656, Abbeville, SC 29620, or to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
