Leon Francis Bouknight Jr., age 69, passed away peacefully after a brief bout with cancer on Wednesday, June 25th, surrounded by his family in Anderson, SC. Leon was born on October 22nd, 1955, to Leon "Pete" Bouknight and Annette Sample Bouknight of Saluda, SC. He was an 8th generation South Carolinian and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Leon was a modern-day renaissance man of many talents, and he forged his professional career from a variety of interests. From youth pastor, public speaker, professional magician, radio announcer, multimedia specialist, author, and technology specialist. Leon was an insatiably curious serial entrepreneur who was well known for his compassion, creativity, and storytelling abilities. Though he blazed a trail across many fields, his work was often in service of others, and Leon left an indelible impression on everyone he encountered.
A consummate gourmand, his culinary exploits were nearly legendary and only rivaled by his love of music and of the arts. Quick to make friends and a willing confidant, Leon rarely met a stranger. His travels took him across the whole of the United States, Canada, Africa, South America and Europe. His journeys on this earth were marked by his dedication to his ideals, his love of family, and his commitment to God.
Those who knew Leon will remember him for his humor and ability to mesmerize a crowd with his entertaining, robust storytelling. Though, above all, his contributions to the fashion of suspenders will be most sorely missed, the fields of coffee brewing, bike riding and facebooking are the poorer for his loss.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan McCall Bouknight, his three sons Jamie, Josh and Jonathan, and their families. He also leaves a sister, Deborah Perry, and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
