Ruth Johnson Obituary

Ruth Burnett Johnson, 93, widow of J. Moscoe Johnson to whom she was married for 63 years, died Monday, October 21, 2024, at her home.

Born in Greenwood, SC, she was a daughter of the late Claude Hughey Burnett and Sara Elizabeth Harris Burnett.

Mrs. Johnson graduated from Emerald High School in Greenwood, SC and Lander College. She taught school at Alice Drive Elementary for 31 years.

Survivors are her children, Linda Jensen (John) of Navarre, FL, Monty Johnson (Debbie) of Greensboro, GA, Bill Johnson of Sumter, Michael Johnson (Kathy) of Shiloh, SC, and Elizabeth Eppley (Chris) of Bishopville, SC; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Strom; and a son-in-law, Tony Watcher.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Whitt officiating.

Burial will follow at Trinity Methodist Church Cemetery in Shiloh, SC.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. Thursday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to a charity of one's choice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Edith Vaughn and Amedisys Hospice and would like for their mother to be remembered as someone who cared for her family and had a heart for all people.
