Adam was a wonderful human being, very friendly, loving, upbeat and hard working. If we could all just take a little pinch of his best qualities and put them into our own daily lives, this world would be a better world. May his memory be a blessing. May his family find comfort in the words we share. We share your grief.

Adam, I only met you once- at your father's house for Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if you had started teaching yet. Your father is a wonderful man; " like father, like son." You are terribly missed.

I meet Mr. Goodman in the sixth grade and i was just walking out of the nurse and he was getting something from the printer and he asked me if i was my brother's (Adrian) sister and from that point on he was my favorite teacher's. He was a person you can always go to with anything. He would always know if you were upset. Westlane misses him and once a wildcat always a wildcat.

Mr. Goodman was like a second father to me. He helped me with my struggles and encouraged me to keep going. It is because of him that I continue to want to strive and be successful. He has made such an impact on my life, the compliments he gave me when I was down helped me to keep going. I had Mr.Goodman for the three years that I was at Westlane. It hurts me that I couldn't say goodbye to him, and that he left without me saying Thank you. He meant a lot to me, and I wish I could've expressed that to him. He was not only my teacher but he was my family.

I really don't know why I'm here. My mind wonders a lot, but of the past few months I haven't thought on this subject. Mr. Goodman.... I had him in 6th grade as a DD (advisory) teacher. I would always look forward to the 25 minutes we had together. Everyday was a good day when Mr. Goodman was around. Throughout my first and second year in middle school, he's been one of my main supporters. When I felt like I was alone and had no one to talk to, he was there. For me. For everyone. To be straight up honest, I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for him. He taught with passion. He taught with love. He wanted to make sure that we became successful in life (and share the money with him if we become rich and famous :p). He was family. Mr. Goodman will never be forgotten.

We loved Adam and lost touch with him after he moved from Seattle. We are forever grateful for the time we had with him as a young man. Thank you Evan for sending him to us. He brought us much joy and was like a third son.

Dear Goodman family,

I remember Adam fondly as my Kindergarten student, but I also knew him later as a fellow educator in Washington Township. Mostly I knew him as the son of Evan, Jan and Lynda and the brother of Katy and as a truly fine human being. I am very saddened by his loss and know how difficult it is to lose a son and a brother. My thoughts and condolences are with you. May his memory be a blessing.
Sincerely, Michelle Hershenson

May you and your family find peace in memories of the wonderful years that you had Adam here with you; Godspeed to your dear son.

Adam was always excited to see me and talk about life and teaching. Whether Adam was having the worse day in the world or felt miserable, Adam greeted everyone with a smile and a handshake. He was a good guy.

I met Mr. Goodman a several years ago at the AVID Summer Institute. As we talked we found out that we had a mutual friend and every time we were together in AVID meetings, I would enjoy seeing him and having conversations with him. This school year my daughter was a member of his Pre-AVID class. I will cherish my last conversation with him during Westlane's Open House was about how much money I could bribe him with to get her into AVID next year. Today in my class I asked a former Westlane student if she knew Mr. Goodman, she immediately smiled and said he was her favorite teacher, unfortunately I had to share with her that he had passed and she was emotional and went into her Bookbag and pulled out a hand written note of encouragement that Mr. Goodman had given her while she was in the 6th grade at Westlane. To the Goodman family from the Miller family, you all will continually be in our prayers.

My husband Mike and I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Goodman, but he made a lasting impression on our daughter Molli, who was fortunate enough to be a part of his AVID team as an education major at Butler. Molli loved Mr. Goodman and will be forever guided by his wisdom May God bless your family and bring you comfort and strength.

April 21, 2017

Mr. Goodman was a favorite of both my sons, Ryan and Aidan Cangany, both in the classroom and as AP sponsor. There was no finer teacher or kinder person! When my older son, Ryan was in 6th grade, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and Mr. Goodman was the first person Ryan confided in. He was a great support to Ryan. Every time I would see Mr. Goodman over the next 6 years that my boys were at Westlane, he would make a point of asking me how I was doing. We always had a great time with parent vs. student AP matches! He was dear to our family. The Cangany family wishes the deepest condolences to his friends, family and the entire Westlane family as well.

Our son's passion for history, government, politics and life caught fire with this man. He lives on in our son and all the children he touched so deeply. The world will miss him, but is a much better place because he was here. Thank you, Mr. Goodman. The Family of Wyatt Fritz

One of the things I used to love the most was that I seemed to have this great ability to make Adam laugh. We could be in a large group and even though I might be talking to someone else, Adam would be off to the side, just dying laughing. I was really talking to him, always. I don't even know why, but he just seemed to think I was funny.
A few times he called me on the phone and I wasn't sure why we were talking. Eventually, we'd start talking about nothing special, I'd say something awful, and he'd start laughing. Then he'd say "I knew you'd make me laugh. Let's have lunch soon." And we would. I miss him so much already.

April 20, 2017

Mr. Goodman was an outstanding human being and I feel blessed to have known him. He was one of my son's teachers in 6th grade. Whenever I was at the school after that year he would greet me and ask about my son by name. He was an engaged, enthusiastic teacher and it was clear that teaching was both his passion and his purpose. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

To the friends and family of Mr. Goodman, i am so sorry for your loss. To me, Mr. Goodman was a kind man and a great leader. I was a part of the AVID program since 6th grade at westlane middle school. It has honestly changed my life and I am so glad that i have had the opportunity to meet such amazing teachers along the way. Mr. Goodman truly cared about his students and i was lucky enough to be one of them. I will never forget that smile.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Mr. Goodman's passing. My kids and I feel blessed that we got to be even a small part of his life. He exemplified what a teacher should be. He always went above and beyond and every student benefitted not only from his teaching but his kindness. He made everyone feel special. The only solace in a time like this is that he will live on in the memories of so many.

I can't express into words how great of a teacher he was. He wasn't judgmental, he cared about his students and his work. His positivity and brightness always made people happy. His AVID family and the staff at Westlane meant a lot to him. He was the coolest teacher. His creativity was amazing. I am so glad to have had him as a teacher, he impacted my life and I will always appreciate him. I will truly miss him, he truly was the life of the party.

I was the parent chair of Teacher Appreciation Week at Westlane one year and we asked kids to write a note of appreciation to any staff member or teacher. There were many people who got notes, but Mr. Goodman's stack was by far the tallest. The kids were inspired by him and knew he cared.

To the Goodman Family:

My son Brandon and I are so sad to hear of the loss of Mr. Goodman. He taught my son just 2 years ago and was one of Brandon's favorite teachers. When Brandon was leaving 6th grade, Mr. Goodman took the time to send a personal note with well wishes home with Brandon. I remember how touched I was and I even posted it on my Facebook page. Mr. Goodman was a great teacher and very special to my son. He will be missed by so many. Please know we are praying for you during this difficult time.

I will never forget the phone calls I received from Adam after school hours, telling me how proud he was of my daughter. He was her most favorite teacher, and she was a student in his AVID classroom. She had been through a great tragedy in her own young life, and Adam encouraged her to share with her classmates and grow as an individual from this experience. Her words to me through great tears the other night were that "Mr. Goodman always would talk to me when I was stressed out, so I would not be so stressed." My family is very sad for this incredible loss to Westlane Middle School and the whole community. My prayers to the family for strength and peace now and always.

Mr. Goodman was my Social Studies teacher in 2008-2009 and later my Academic Team coach. He was the best teacher I encountered in my 12 years at Washington Township Schools. Mr. Goodman was incredibly devoted to the students he taught. He cared about every single student-- how they were doing at school and at home. Dozens of my friends have posted about him, sharing how he helped them get through difficult times or encouraged them to participate in class. Mr. Goodman made a lasting impact on hundreds of students, and all the lives he changed for the better will live on.

The first impression I had of Goodman on the day I met him rang true for the next 10 years I knew him; big-hearted, humble, and as friendly a person I could hope for in a colleague. He was always someone I knew I could talk to for advice, help, or an ear to listen. Thanks for everything Adam. Gonna miss you.

Adam Goodman was a good teacher and he inspired many students, including me at Westlane Middle School to do their best and succeed at life and education and he will always be remembered and if we succeed in our life and education then he succeeded with his life.
