Barbara Bowman Obituary

Barbara Lucille Schurdell Bowman Barbara Lucille Schurdell Bowman, RN died on Sunday January 25, 2009 at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC surrounded by her loving family. An Indianapolis memorial service will be held at her home church, Calvary Lutheran, 6111 Shelby Street, Indianapolis on June 6th at 11AM. The family requests that memorials be sent to Calvary Lutheran, or a charity of the donor's choice. She will be remembered as an independent and straight talking professional nurse who cared for all those around her throughout her entire life. She was born September 29, 1929 in Cleveland Ohio to parents Lucille and Arthur Schurdell. She graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1950 and began her 40-year nursing career as a Registered Nurse. Her first job was at Indianapolis Veterans Hospital. She then worked as a homemaker raising her children in Louisville, KY, Olympia, WA and Valparaiso, IN. She returned to Indianapolis in 1967 and began a 25-year career at Methodist Hospital. She retired from Methodist as a Surgical Head Nurse in 1992. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 2007 to be with her daughter. She is survived by her brother Ted Schurdell, children Jim Bowman (Shana) of Greenwood, IN, Linda Hamilton (Doug) of Charlotte, NC and Andy Bowman of Orlando, FL, five grandchildren Sarah (Ken) Ackermann, Laura (Joel) Pontius, Andrew Bowman, Leslie Hamilton, and Brad Hamilton and one great-grandchild Lucas Ackermann. A memorial service was held on Monday January 26, 2009 in Charlotte with Dr. Richard Runge of Ascension Lutheran Church presiding. More information may be found at http: www. centergrove.netBarb
