Chase Smith Obituary

Chase Montgomery Smith

Bargersville - Chase Montgomery Smith 19 of Bargersville, IN entered his faithful Savior's arms Sunday April 4, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 4, 2001 in Columbus, Indiana to Bradley Vincent Smith and Kelli Miranda (Montgomery) Smith. He married Sadie (Mills) Smith on April 29 in 2020.

Chase's love for God was so important to him. He made it a mission in the last year of his life to point to God and share God's impact with others. He also loved his family so dearly, it was his mission to protect, love, and prepare for them even after he was gone. Chase's other great passion was swimming. He loved the sport, and found therapy in being in the water, watching, debating, analyzing, coaching, and celebrating all things swimming. He was a three time Indiana State High School swimming qualifier, 15 Indiana Age Group State Champion Titles, 2020 Indiana Swimming Male Athlete of the year, three high school records and in 2014 he was nationally ranked in the top 5 in 11-12 year old butterfly. Chase had a passion for life. He loved music, politics, podcasts, adventure, all things sports, and his sweet bulldog, Dubs.

He was a 2020 graduate of Indian Creek High School.

He was a member of Emmanuel Church in Stones Crossing, Greenwood.

Survivors include his wife and best friend Sadie (Mills) Smith and dog (Dubs) of Bargersville, IN, his parents Brad and Kelli (Montgomery) Smith of Bargersville, IN, a sister Kaitlin Smith of Bargersville, IN, grandparents Robert and Donna Smith of Whiteland, IN, Mark Montgomery of Greenwood, IN, Uncle Kaleb Montgomery of Greenwood, IN, Uncle Andy and Aunt Shelly Smith of Trafalgar, IN, three cousins Joey, Sam and Nate Smith, father in law Jeff Mills and mother in law Jessica Mills of Mooresville, IN, sister in law Savannah Mills and brother in law Cannon Mills. I work at the pharmacy Chase would go to. I remember when he would Come through with his mom to pick up his medications, I would always ask him how he was feeling that day? He would always say, "good" with a smile on his face, when you knew he was in pain. I always admired that! As a mother and a wife I can't imagine the challenges his family is facing. Just know there is so much love and support there for you guys! If you ever need ANYTHING please dont hesitate to ask!!! Fly high Chase! You will be missed!!

I've been fervently praying for Chase from the time his story first appeared in the Indianapolis Star and would celebrate each victory he achieved as an answer to my prayers. Sadie, he was so blessed to have you in his life and I was rooting for the two of you to be able to celebrate your first wedding anniversary; however, it was evident that faith in God is what really kept Chase. You've been through more at a young age than most people in their lifetime. My heartfelt love and prayers go out to everyone and may God continue to hold and strengthen you.

Chase's story was an inspiration to all of us. I've followed his story as it unfolded. I'm so very sorry for your loss but I know he's no longer in pain. You all, his family, won't have to watch his struggles any longer. You'll see him again.

So many of us, just strangers, have been praying for Chase, for you, the family, this past year. It was so hard to pray at night "Thy will be done," when his life was what we wanted, and less pain. Reading about Chase's faith, going through this WITH GOD--what a powerful testimony. Thank you for sharing that.
