Jagjeet Ahluwalia Obituary
age 82, beloved husband of Claire Ahluwalia (Pellman) from Dayton and formerly of Cincinnati, and adored father of Dr. Jerry Ahluwalia, passed away early Wednesday morning on May 31, 2017. He passed in his loving wife's arms. He lost a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Claire, his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Elizabeth, and his grandson, Jacob. He is survived by his older brothers, Surjit (Surinder) Ahluwalia from California and Balwant (Jane) Ahluwalia from Maryland, his sister-in-law, Avinash (Ranjit, deceased) Sikand from Indiana, and his sister, Surinder (Harbans) Ahluwalia from Maryland.
Jagjeet was the most peaceful, gentle, and kind-hearted man known by family and friends. He was the true embodiment of his Sikh religion. Everyone who knew him called him the nicest person that they have ever met.
He was born in Solon, India at the foothills of the Himalayas. He emigrated to the United States in 1964 to continue to study Chemistry. He received his Master's Degree from Mankato State University and then began his PhD at the University of Massachusetts. He left the doctoral program in order to begin teaching, which was his true passion and true talent. He taught Chemistry at both Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania and Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He met his wife, Claire (also a teacher and formerly a Catholic nun), while teaching at Marian University. The story of how they met and fell in love is a story to be heard and shared.
He was proud of his religion and heritage and of his entire family, especially his son, Jerry, and his new grandson, Jacob. Before passing away he began to teach Jacob how to understand Punjabi. He was a devout religious man and prayed every day.
His gentle, friendly eyes and smile made people gravitate toward him.
Funeral services with visitation will be this coming Saturday afternoon, June 3rd, beginning at 3 p.m. at Avance Funeral Home in Fairfield, Ohio followed by prayers and memorial service at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara of Cincinnati, 4394 Tylersville Rd, West Chester Township, OH 45011.
The family requests any donations in his name be made either to the Guru Nanak Society of Greater Cincinnati at the address above, or to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Cincinnati District Council.

Hope you are doing O.K. I am so sorry about your loss of Jagjeet. I have been trying to send you a note, but I' m having a hard time remembering with all the things I have going on here. Ray is on oxygen 24 hours a day, so you can guess how busy my brain and my body are.

I am heartsick at the loss of Jagjeet. I had so hoped to see you soon after your relocation to the Dayton area and was wanting Jagjeet to win the battle. I was very sad to hear of the passing of your loved one. I work as the receptionist for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. I never knew his name but I remember that he was always faithful and dedicated to coming in and helping and serving our neighbors in need. These things will always be remembered by myself and those who worked closely with him.
