John Dugan Obituary

John R. Dugan, M.D. October 31, 1941 - November 25, 2010 John Rickwood Dugan died peacefully on Thanksgiving following an extended illness. He was a reserved and thoughtful friend to countless family members, patients, and loved ones. He was born on Halloween in 1941 to William Miller Dugan Sr., M.D; and Ruth Miller Dugan. John attended DePauw University, and received his Undergraduate and Medical degrees from Indiana University. Following family medicine training at Methodist Hospital, he established his private practice in Broad Ripple in 1969. He participated in residency education throughout his career, and eventually served as the Director of the St. Vincent Family Medicine Program. John lived for the service of others. In addition to his medical practice, he enjoyed sports (participating and coaching), his lake and farm real estate adventures, and writing collections of memorable quotes. He also followed in his father's tradition as a member of the Junto of Indianapolis for 40 years and received Emeritus status. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Carol Norquest Dugan; sons, Michael John (Demaris), James Andrew Dugan (Kelli), and daughter, Anne Marie (Dugan) Skiles (Aaron); grandchildren, Allison Nicole Dugan, Lauren Renee Dugan, Ava Grace Dugan and Zachary James Dugan; brother, William M. Dugan, Jr., M.D. (Ann) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John and Bill were third generation brothers who have been physicians; Mike and Jim represent the fourth generation. A calling will be held on Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at St. Luke's United Methodist Church (Robertson Chapel) on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. John was blessed with committed and loving caregivers.
