Joseph O'Rourke Obituary

Joseph B. O'Rourke Passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 in Indianapolis. He was born February 29, 1932, to Hugh and Anne (Lyons) O'Rourke of Cecil, PA. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Fran (Head) O'Rourke; four children and spouses, Jay (Juane) O'Rourke, Allentown PA; Mimi (Tom) Kaehr, Carmel; Pat (Bev) O'Rourke, Carmel and Dan (Laurie) O'Rourke, Paris, France. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, Donovan, Hailey and Jon O'Rourke; Madeline, Andy, Blaine, Nick, Luke and Audrey Kaehr; Kelly, Patrick, Sean and Molly O'Rourke; Brad, Katherine and Carly O'Rourke. Joe is also survived by his brother, John and sister Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jim, Hugh, and Tom and sister, Margaret Wharton. He graduated from Cecil High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Engineer during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. Joe attended The University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University. He enjoyed a successful career, spanning 40 years, as a self-employed Manufacturer's Representative specializing in sales and marketing strategies. Joe was a passionate family man, who enjoyed tennis and spending winters in Florida with Fran and their friends from Canada. Additionally, Joe was an accomplished handy man whose skills helped many friends and neighbors with home repairs and improvements. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers, especially Dr. Ascioti and Lisa; Dr. Milton and staff; and the team at St. Vincent Hospice, who supported Joe during his battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne Rd. Indpls, IN 46268 and or St. Augustine (Little Sisters of the Poor) 2345 W. 86th St, Indpls, IN 46260. Joe has generously donated his body to the IU School of Medicine Anatomical Education Program. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the celebration of a memorial Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Dr, Indpls, IN 46240.
