Eugene Strader, Jr.
March 9, 2024
My name is Eugene Strader, Jr. I was just thinking about Mr. Price, so I decided to Google him, found out that he passed years ago. Mr. Price was my first music teacher at school #41. Mr. Price introduced me to music when I was in the 3rd grade. I was taught how to listen, talk and appreciate music. I started out playing the drums, but one day, I walked into the music room and there was Mr. Price, playing on an upright bass! I just stopped and looked at him. His eyes were closed, there was no other music playing in the room, Just what he was hearing in his head. he looked so cool! I immediately said to myself, "now this is what I want to play!" I continued with music from the 3rd grade to all four years at Crispus Attucks high School. From there, I served five years in the United States Marine Corps Band, playing drums in the marching band and bass on the side. After I received my honorable discharge, I attended San Diego State University, with a major of music. I played bass in the Jazz Ensemble. I'm now 67 years old, and I have my own school of music, The Post Road Music Academy. None of my success would not be possible without Mr. Price. I just wish that I could've told him all of this face to face.

Mr. Price...Ive been thinking alot about you lately and Ive often wondered how you were doing over the years. You were my music teacher in 7th and 8th grade at School 61 and I remember when you used to pick me and a few kids up in your car for summer school back in 81. I just saw your obituary this morning and Im heartbroken. I know I shouldn't be because youre with the Lord but I never got a chance to say thank you for what you did for me as a kid. After I left middle school I went on to play other instruments. I was 1st chair in the orchestra 3 out of the 4 years I was in high school. Because of you. Im grown now with children and grandchildren of my own. I am TRULY grateful to have had you as my teacher and have met you. Your love of music has really rubbed off on me. I never met a man that could play ANYTHING you give him. What a legacy...Love and God bless you....Dana Strickland

I knew him as Mr. Price. He was my first music teacher. He let me explore as a young student, first with the cello , then letting me switch to the viola. One day I heard him play the trumpet and I was hooked. He led me to the room where the instruments were stored and found a worthy trumpet for me to learn to play. This occurred 50 or so years ago. It is 4:00 am in South Carolina, for some reason I was thinking of Mr. Price, I googled and found that he had passed. This man gave me the gift of music , with great generosity and encouragement. He lives in my heart still. Thank you Mr. Price

Mr Price was the Music Teacher at School 43 when I attended and lived across the street from our house on Boulevard. I always thought he was a movie star like character. Impeccably dressed, and the epitome of professionalism and class. A gentleman's gentleman best describes Mr. Price. Bless His Family in this time of sorrow. Condolences from the Wrights and Brown families.
