Lorrie Collins Obituary

Lorrie (Evelyn) Ann Collins

Indianapolis - Lorrie {Evelyn} Ann Collins

Passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2020. She was born November 18, 1930 in Indianapolis.

Lorrie was a career educator, academic and an early proponent of healthy lifestyles. She earned a doctorate degree from Indiana University, exploring the benefits of yoga and stress management in her doctoral thesis. Her post doctorate study and training continued to be influenced by her growing interest in Eastern philosophy and the benefits of the physical practice of yoga. Lorrie trained extensively with B.K.S.Iyengar at the Pune India Institute and earned her certification as an Iyengar instructor, one of the very few to reside in the United States.

She gave seminars nationwide on holistic health and developing human potential. Her publications include a yoga column for the Indianapolis News, articles on yoga and stress management for several magazines and journals, training tapes, a vegetarian cookbook, as well as a television series called "Yoga Alive". Lorrie also established her own yoga studio on the Indianapolis Northside, one of the first in the midwest. She was much beloved by her many students, friends and family. Her impact and influence in their lives continues as her journey ends and she is at rest.

She is survived by her children, Connie Collins Matas and Richard Collins (Gail), granddaughters Robin DeTrude (Kevin), Chelsea Collins (Brian Rodick), Blythe Logan (Zach) and grandsons Thomas Janes II and Christopher Collins (Danielle Courrier). She has eight great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

The family would like to thank St. Vincent's Hospital and medical team for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ascension St Vincent's Hospital or the Indianapolis Humane Society.

Lorrie will be laid to rest in Washington Park North, Kessler Woods in a private burial. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
