Mary Jane Wolf
age 91, of Greenfield, passed away on January 11, 2013. Born on February 10, 1921, in Putnam County, Indiana, she was the daughter of John Cleveland and Martha L. (Clodfelter) Vermillion. Mary Jane earned a bachelor's degree in English from DePauw University where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She then earned her master's degree from Radcliffe College and also studied in England at the University of London. Mary Jane married William "Bill" H. Wolf, on April 22, 1950, and they were married for 61 years before he passed away in 2011.
Mrs. Wolf was an English literature and language arts teacher for the Greenfield school system for 20 years. She also taught at DePauw University and worked as an editor at Bobbs-Merrill Company. She was a trained classical violinist taught by Ferdinand Schaefer. She loved to read, play bridge, travel and appreciated the fine arts. Additionally, she was a member of Tri Kappa, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the Cosmopolitan Book Club.
Surviving her are her four daughters: Sarah, Martha, Pamela, and Paula. Paula is married to Mike Weninger and has two children, William "Will" Wolf Weninger and Ruby Marie Weninger. She is also survived by her nephews, Leslie Vermillion, John Vermillion, and Bruce Talbott; sisters-in-law, Mary Vermillion, Doris Talbott, and Marian Wolf Thoms; several cousins including Malcolm Romine and Julia Romine; and her loyal feline companion, Miss Kitty. Also preceding her in death were her parents and siblings, John "Jack" and Stanley.
A celebratory memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, January 20, 2013, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Burial will take place at a later date.

Mrs. Wolf was a wonderful teacher. I had her in 7th grade and she was the first teacher to make the effort and work with me to develop excellent writing skills. I will always hold her in high regard. My condolences to her family.
