Nathaniel Steele Obituary

Nathaniel S. "Nate" Steele 88, Shelbyville, died Saturday, October 7, 2006. He was born in Indianapolis on December 27, 1917 to Clarence A. Steele and Lura Z. (Sink) Steele. On October 7, 1974, he married Nancy A. (Kingery) Steele. He moved to Shelbyville from Indianapolis in 1956. He was a shoe fitter at Schoelch's Hub Shoes, and worked there for 28 years before retiring in 1984. He was a graduate of George Washington High School, and also attended Ball State University. He was a member of the Indianapolis Philharmonic for 39 years, where he played as a violinist. He was also a member of the Columbus Indiana Symphony and the Shelbyville Orchestra. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, J.P. Steele; and sister, Betty G. England. Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. Steele; two nephews, Ethan (Sue) England of New Whiteland, and Dr. Anthony (Kathi) England of Dexter, MI; three nieces, Alice (Norm) Whinnery of Springfield, MO, Bonnie (Larry) Steele of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Barbara (Eldred) Olsen of Camano Island, WA. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11 at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10. Burial will be in Mannan Cemetery, located in Morgan County, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mannan Cemetery and Low Vision Group of McKay Manor, care of the funeral home.
