So odd that the invitation to write in memory of Phil appeared in my email this morning, because it was only on Wednesday of this week that I was viewing some old slides in which Phil’s dad, Marty, appeared - they were of his days playing baseball at Wabash College in the late 40s.
It’s hard to believe Phil has been gone 7 years - seems like it was only yesterday. I know he’s missed by many and I’m just so sorry on all that he’s missed in the lives of his family. May God bless you all as you remember him with smiles and laughter, with tender moments and meaningful thoughts - what a blessing our memories are. He lives on in each of you who hold those memories close to your heart.

I knew Phils father, Marty, fairly well. We did a little hunting and fishing together out in the Bal Hinch. I got to know Phil because of his dad and Im glad we were acquainted. I remember hearing about Phils passing and am so sorry his family lost him so soon in life - it seems so unfair. Am thinking about all of you today and each time I pass by the Paligraf home on Offield-Monument Road, I remember my wonderful neighbors and friends with a smile. God bless all of you -

We are so sorry to hear about Phil. I know we haven't seen you all in a while, but we have great fond memories of travel baseball with HSE and the Marlins. Phil was a joy to be around and a wonderful person. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Paligraf family (and Jane & Cindy):
The day I found out about Phil we were leaving for a trip out west the next day and so, I was unable to attend the funeral. Upon hearing that Phil had been out to the farm on Offield-Monument Road out here in the Bal Hinch, which is where we live, I was sorry that I didn't see him that day.
Please know how sorry we all are for your loss of Phil. I didn't know Phil nearly as well as I knew his dad, Marty, and as I read some of these incredible entries, I learned more about him - wow! He was larger than life, as the old cliché goes.
I pray that the Lord will bring the comfort and strength you will need in the days ahead as you attempt to get through some tough moments along life's journey.
Love,
The Troutman family (David, Cara, Justine, Joshua & Jordanna)

Meg and Children,
So sorry for your loss. It's been a long time since the Channel 4 days spent w/ you and Phil, but you both were part of a very fun time in our lives. Your kids should and probably do know that Phil "played" hard at work and away from work and was a damn good man. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Shaun and Laura Krivoshia

I had believed that with time the words would come to me to relay my condolences. The perfect words did not come but memories of the Phil I went to school with came flooding back. I remember him as a happy, funny and loved guy! I remember Phil's smile and that "twinkle" in his eyes that made him so special. I was so touched by the words that were written about Phil and the description of the man he became. His success is not a surprise because he was a success in his school years too. I will keep each of you in my prayers and hope that with each passing day the "twinkle" of Phil's eyes when he smiled will bring a warmth to your soul.

Dear Paligraf Family,
My heart reaches out to you during this difficult period.
I met Phil back in the late 90's while I sold for WTTV. His humor, intelligence and creativity were unmatched.
Phil enjoyed having me call clients because I could impersonate Coach Knight and I always enjoyed his company.
Later, while broadcasting Cathedral football, it was always good to see Phil at Irish sporting events. He fondly called me "Coach" and it always made me laugh.
May Phil's memory be a blessing forever and may your family gain strength each day moving forward.

To The Family,
What a shock and a heartache to hear of Phil's passing. I have known Phil for over 25 years, doing business with him when he worked at WTTV and at Spotlight. Meg, Patrick, Maurissa, and Mathew,
We are truly and deeply blessed to have had Phil and your family in our lives for so many years. Phil was an inspirational person, coach, friend, father, and husband. His humor and laughter were infectious; his wisdom and mentoring respected; and his love for his family and life was inspirational to those who knew him. Our boys benefitted tremendously from the passion and knowledge Phil brought to the game, no matter what the game was. Paul very much enjoyed coaching along side him in baseball in the Mustangs organization, and valued his support and guidance as our boys continue to mature with the game of baseball. Meg, You are a very strong woman and have a wonderful and strong family, and as you heal the Lord will carry you through this difficult time. We love you and we are here for you always. God Bless Phil, and God Bless the entire Paligraf family.

We often don't realize how unique someone is until they're gone. Meg, Maurissa, Mathew and Patrick, Phil was certainly that unique and rare person. A country boy, yet smart and shrewd, a man's man, yet easy going and friendly, successful in everything he did, yet never bragged about himself, an incredible sense of humor, you could talk with him at length about any subject. Maurissa, Mathew and Patrick, you will someday be able to tell your own children many stories about him, and his memory will therefore live on through successive generations. You three are blessed in that you come from two very special families, and I know that, because of the proud way your Dad talked about you, those wonderful qualities of both the Monserez's and the Paligraf's have been inherited by each of you. You will be able to continue that singular combination of humility, success and personality that was so evident in your Dad, and both he and your Mom will be as proud of you in your adult years as they have been as they watched you grow. I was fortunate to be a friend.

I have met few people for whom the term genuine applied more completely and perfectly than Phil and Meg Paligraf. They opened their hearts and their home to us and our son Grant.
We met Phil and Meg when Grant joined the Mustangs. As coach, Phil brought a joy, an enthusiasm, and a balance to the Mustangs. While performance and outcome were important to Phil they were not as important as attitude, effort and playing the game the right way. He understood – as fully and completely as any father I have known – why boys play games; because they are fun; and he stood guard ready to drive away anyone who threatened to make the game a job.
We will miss Phil profoundly. However, we know Phil has provided a foundation for this family to not only survive but to thrive. They are fully infected with the joy and enthusiasm that Phil and Meg have modeled. While we grieve Phil's passing we are comforted in knowing that his family will be upheld by their faith and Phil's legacy of joy.
We love Phil, Meg, Patrick, Maurissa, and Matthew. We are different for having known them. We are better for having known them.
