Steve Cooper Obituary

Steve J. Cooper 57, passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2011. He was born on April 26, 1953 in Indianapolis to Hardin Cooper and Elsie (Mullican) Cooper. Steve's greatest love was his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved his church and church family as well. Steve had a passion for the word of God and sharing that word with everyone he met. He found great joy in teaching Sunday school for many years. He recently was awarded a local minister's license from the Nazarene Church and he looked forward to using it. Steve graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in 1971. Steve loved anything to do with aviation and earned his first pilot's license before he received his driver's license. Steve worked as a small cargo carrier pilot in his younger years, for Schaller Courier and for Pony Express Courier. Most recently, he was Presidentowner of Security Courier Corporation from 1993 to 2009. Steve was a member of Westside Church of the Nazarene where he was active in many ministries over the years. He also served on the board at Shepherd Community. Steve and his family loved spending spare time at Dale Hollow Lake in KY. He has many cherished friends in Albany, KY, and looked forward to retiring there one day. In addition to his parents, Steve is survived by his wife, Jennie; his in-laws, Henry and Mary Ann Stearns of Florida and Barbara Wells of New Castle; his children, Julie Cooper, Ben Bartlett, Adam (Tyler) Bartlett (daughter Brooklynne), Erin (Matthew) Taylor (daughter Audrina); brothers, Clayton (Janis) Cooper, Jerry (Kathy) Cooper, and Ron Cooper. He is also survived by nephews, David (Monica) Cooper, Tyler (Gina) Cooper, Joshua (Fiance' Stacy) Cooper; nieces, Christy (Tim) Benning, and Melanie Cooper; his former spouse, Tammy Buskirk, along with many other family members and friends too numerous to count. Steve was a kind and generous man who never met a stranger. He could converse with anyone and loved to make people laugh. He was loved by many and will be terribly missed. Visitation for Steve will be Monday, February 14, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Conkle Funeral Home in Avon. Funeral services will be Tuesday February 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Westside Church of the Nazarene, 8610 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Westside Church of the Nazarene in Steve's name for a memorial tribute to be determined at a later date.
