Thomas Eugene "Gene" Kramer
93, passed away November 6, 2011. He was a longtime resident of Indianapolis.
Gene was born January 31, 1918 in Chicago, IL, to the late Nicholas and Christine (Vander Ploge) Kramer. He graduated from Redlands High School, CA, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Gene was in the dairy/grocery business, retiring from Allied Grocers of Indiana.
Gene was a member of several local organizations including the Murat Temple, the Scottish Rite, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and the Gun Club. He loved bowling, bocce, fishing, poker, and golf at Pleasant Run. He was most proud of his days playing the bagpipes and drums for the Murat Highlanders, performing for many years at the Shrine Circus and various parades and fundraising events around the state.
Survivors include sister, Mae Thomas of Vincennes; sons, Tom Kramer of Daleville and Jim (Kathy) Kramer of Virginia; step-daughter, Georgia Kahl of Florida; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, in care of Murat Shrine, 510 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis, 46204.
