William G. "Bill" Congleton 84 Frankfort, IN, died at 7:03 a.m, August 5, 2008 at Wesley Manor. He was born July 17, 1924 in Frankfort, IN, to Mark and Lula (Gray) Congleton. He married Ermal L. Laughner on May 4, 1947 and she preceded him in death on December 4, 2006. Mr. Congleton was a 1942 graduate of Jackson Township High School and took Agriculture short courses at Purdue University. He was a farmer and a lifelong Clinton County resident. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Paul Harris Foundation and a former member of Rotary. Mr. Congleton helped organize the Indiana Pork Producers Association and the National Pork Producers Council in the 1950s. He served on the board of the Indiana Pork Producers from 1960 to 1979 and served as president in 1974 and 1975. He served on the board of the National Livestock and Meat Board from 1975 to 1988 and on the Executive Board from 1980 to 1988 and was president of the Pork Industry Group in 1974 and 1975. His awards include Prairie Farmer Master Farmer of Excellence for Community Service, 1978, Commercial Producer of the Year by the National Swine Improvement Federation in 1979, Meritorious Service Award by Indiana Pork Producers in 1982 and The Pork Industry Award by the National Hog Farmer Magazine in 1985. In 1979 he was given membership in the Honor Society of Agriculture by Gamma Sigma Delta at Purdue University. He is survived by his son, Mike (Lana) Congleton of Frankfort, IN; his daughter; Lynn (Larry) Williams of Newtown, CT; three sisters, Mary Ann Carter of Sacramento, CA, Nancy (Don) Kinsler of Frankfort, IN, and Jane Quick of Lebanon, IN; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 at the First Christian Church, Frankfort, IN. Family will receive friends following the service at the church. Pam Ditson-McCall will officiate. Private family burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
