A. Scherrer Obituary

SCHERRER
A. JAMES a long time resident of Bucks County, PA died on October 18th at his home. Mr. Scherrer was born on May 30, 1919 in Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island NY to Austin and Marie (Schumacher) Scherrer. He graduated from Hackensack High School (NJ) in 1937 and from New York University in 1941. He entered the US Army in 1941, serving with the 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division in North Africa and Italy for 39 months. Following his discharge he was employed by the Chemetron Corp of North Bergen, NJ. In 1947 he co-founded the Mercer Oxygen & Supply Co. of Trenton NJ acting as it's Sec-Treasurer. In 1962 he founded and was President of the Superior Welding Supply Inc. of Pennsauken, NJ. Mr. Scherrer married Aethra Jane Haight of Hackensack in 1942. The couple had four daughters and a son. Mr. and Mrs. Scherrer divided their time their Florida home and their home in the Pocono Mts of PA. Mr. Scherrer was a life-time member of the American Welding Society, a member of the Trention Country Club and the The Merchantville Country Club. Following the death of his wife in 1996 Mr. Scherrer married a long time friend, Bernice Rice of Hackensack NJ in 1999. Bernice Scherrer died in April of 2008. Mr. Scherrer is survived by his four daughters; Gail Arnold (James) of Cleveland, OH; Corrie Galvin of Delray Beach, Fl; Lynn Jones (Lee) of Delray Beach, Fl; Christine Scherrer (Bill O'Byrne) of Cinnaminson, NJ; and his son, Jamie Scherrer (Amy) of Riverton, NJ, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his five step children; Russell Rice Jr., Charles Rice, James Rice, Robert Rice, and Carol Cinque. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Saturday October 25, 2008 from 10:00 A.M. to 12 P.M. and to attend his memorial service Saturday 12 P.M. at the WEBER FUNERAL HOME, 112 Broad St. (River Road), Riverton N.J. Interment Private at the convenience of the family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Samaritan Hospice, Marlton, NJ.
