Dear Janet and kids,
I just today received the news of Al's death. It brought back so many memories of Frankford High, Frankford Memorial Church and the Mission Class. He was such a kind man and you Janet always such a lady. But that's how I remember you and Janet Ogden and my mother and so many others as just very good and wonderful women. Al did so much for everyone he met and touched the lives of all he knew. I am so very sorry for your loss he will be missed by many.

My deepest symathies to the Angelo Families. I had the opportunity to get to know Coach Angelo during my 3 years at Frankford High School.(77-79). And also when I would be there cheering on my brother Dave Spud who had the chance to be coached by one of the Greatest!! Coach always had the time to say hello no matter where you were. When I think of Al Angelo I am reminded of a wonderful refrain: When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not wheter you won or lost but how you played the game. Al played the game well on the field and off with courage, integrity and compassion. Truly the finest friend I ever knew!
Rest In Peace Dear Friend.

I first met Al when he became a regular attendee at our Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club luncheons. He quickly became a familiar sight and I learned about his legacy as a football coach. What I also learned was that Al was a gentle, kind, and thoughtful man who never boasted of his accomplishments and took great pride in his devotion to his sport, his players and his family. Monday luncheons will not be the same without the chance to share a few moments with Al. Hold tight to the memories of this wonderful man.

Attending Mr. Angelo's viewing yesterday made the fond memories of everyday interactions with this one-of-a-kind man come rushing back. When playing for him, seeing him at 13 Club functions or simply in the halls of Frankford, I always knew in the back of my mind, that I was being influenced by someone unlike any other person I will meet again. His spirit, knowledge, demeanor, patience and charisma exuded on every occasion you came across him. (He would even treat a mere kicker like the number one man on the depth chart at times.) It's been twenty years since I saw him on a regular basis, and I have yet to meet anyone in his league. My deepest sympathies to the Angelo family and may the Coach Angelo stories continue to be told for decades to come.

To the Angelo Family,
My deepest sympathy and prayers are with you all at this time. Mr. Angelo had a profound impact on my life, not only from his support and guidance in school and on the grid iron but also with his contagious spirit and positive outlook on life.
I will always remember the many lessons learned during long hours of practice (sometimes in the dark!) and of course on game day whether a win or loss (mostly wins), "always respect your opponent". My years as a "Fighting Pioneer" football player (1980-83) were some of the best years of my life!
I'm very proud to say that I played football at Frankford High School but I'm even more proud to say that I was coached by the BEST, Al Angelo! He was truly one of a kind and his legacy will NEVER be forgotten.

To the Angelo family.. We, the entire family of Carol and Ed Cornell, extend our most sincere condolences in this time in which you mourn the loss of your beloved one. You as well as the Frankford H. S. community have lost not only a legendary football coach and educator, but an oustanding member of your family, a leader of youth and a true gentleman who was extremely well respected by everyone he had the opportunity to touch. It was my pleasure to be associated with Al not only on the athletic field but in other venues outside. The past couple years we spent afternoon luncheons with the NE Bats and Balls where Al was honored by that group for his service and dedication to the youth. I feel very honored to have known him as a friend as well as a respected member of the community. Both my sons, Ed Jr. and Mark had the opportunity to play football for Al at Frankford H. S. My three daughters, Kim, Vicki and Wendy also Had the opportunity to be taught by Al and had the friendship of the Angelo girls. We will all miss the smiles and best wishes that were always extended whenever in Al's presence. We intend to be at the services to support your family in this time of grief to provide any consolation possible to your family. Our family will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless your entire family and see that Al rest in peace in his new surrounding until reunited with us once again. The family of Carol and Ed Cornell

To the Angelo Family,
Words fail me at this time... My prayer, however, is that God will keep you all under His Sacred Canopy. I express a profound gratitude for Coach Angelo's influence upon my formation as a person.
From the obvious outpouring of love and respect it appears evident that honesty, humility and virtue will always trump the greedy, the dishonest and the self-seeking among us. Coach Angelo's legacy is a strong reminder that every human life when lived for the highest good of others promotes the best chance we have for a better world.
He was more than a coach, he was an example of what it means to be fully alive.

To the Angelo Family:
I just wanted to express my deepest and most Sincere Sympathy to the entire Angelo Family. I had the privilege of Mr. Angelo being one of my Teachers from 1967 to 1970, and I must say, he was a very kind man, and a terrific human being, that would go out of his way to help you in any way possible.
There was never a doubt, that Teaching and Coaching was where he wanted to be, and was supposed to be. He will be missed forever, and also remembered as one of the BEST Teachers and Coaches that Frankford High School has ever known.
Frankford High School has lost one of the True GREAT ones.
God Bless you all.

Dear Angelo Family,
What a legend Mr. Angelo was. My husband is from NJ and knew more about him than I did. I had the pleasure of having Annette in my Brownie Troop at Frankford Mem'l Church what wonderful child she was. I graduated in 1969 with Richie Glenn, Randy Vogel, Ron Conley. I believe we were undefeated that year. That was a great time in my life. I'll never forget all that wonderful football. Frankford has truly lost a legend.

I had known (Coach) Al Angelo personally for only a short time; however, I realized immediately that he was a man to be admired, heralded, and revered for his temperance, and his inherent ability to communicate with all individuals on a personal basis. Although I have seen him sparsely in the intervening years since first we met, he has imprinted an indelible impact upon my life. He was the quintessential essence of humanity. I'll miss him.

My condolences to the Angelo Family. Mr. Angelo was not only a great football coach; he was an even greater man. Although I wasn't a star player and played only special teams Mr. Angelo made me feel that I was just as important a member of the team as anyone. He taught me many lessons that I still use today and I am thankful that he helped me to become a better man. May he rest in peace.

A moment captures the sperit of the man. I remember two kids, Al Angelo and Ernie Liberati, changing into their varsity uniforms, after being picked to play with the big guys. I was one of the big guys and wondered were these guys that good? I soon found out. They were!
Not only were they good, they were nice guys and fun to be around.
Last summer Ernie and I had lunch with Al. In spite of his difficulties, he continued to be a nice guy and tried very hard to cheer us up and make us feel comfortable.
I've been proud to call Al my friend. The world will be somewhat diminished without him.

The coaches and Board of Director’s of Frankford Boys Club, past and present, would like to offer their sincerest condolences to the entire Angelo Family. The positive and lasting impressions that Coach Angelo has had on so many individuals who participated with Frankford Boys Club through the years are too numerous to mention. As an organization we were extremely fortunate that so many of the children who participated in our athletic programs were able to continue learning from one of the area’s finest teachers…we were fortunate because so many of the young men who Coach Angelo taught the game of football to came back to pass on that knowledge as coaches and Board members, to several generations of Frankford Boys Club kids! Coach Angelo has always been an integral part of our success, not only on the athletic field but also in helping to develop character and a sense of community in the young men who participated in our programs. It will always be our hope that we were viewed from Coach Angelo’s perspective as an organization who helped to develop well rounded student athletes for Frankford High School.
Sincerely,
Frankford Boys Club

To the Angelo family:
I want to first express my sincere condolences for your loss. As a former player and student, I was able to see first hand why Mr. Angelo was and always will be considered a legend. He always made the best of things, lived life to the fullest, and always accepted everyone into his world, not only as a coach and a teacher, but more importantly as a man. We can only hope that in our own lives we can impact another person's life as he has done for so many of us. I'm a better person for having known him and I will miss him dearly.
One final note: I was always amazed and impressed that no matter where people were in their lives or how long it was since Mr. Angelo had seen a person last, he always knew where they lived, what they were up to and could even tell you when he saw them last. That to me was really amazing. He definitely loved people and it certainly showed through his personality and the way he lived his life.

My heartfelt condolences to all of you.
My regret is that I never got to play for Mr. Angelo.
My privilege was to know him as a neighbor and Fkd. High School leader who always wore a smile. And that smile was never more evident to me as it was when he attended the 30th reunion of the Class of 75. He seemed so truly happy to be invited but it was the class that was blessed by his presence.

To the Angelo Family - Growing up in Bridesburg in the 60's, I was fortunate to have Al as my little league baseball coach for several seasons. Skip was on my team once or twice. Al always wanted to help. If we needed an umpire, he would ump. If we needed a coach, he would coach. What I remember most is that Al was always smiling, pleasant and positive. He always had a kind word regardless of whether you hit a home run or struck out. My condolences to his family.

DearAngelo Family,
It was during Al's "tough times" that it I was blessed to come to know him. As a fellow cancer patient, it was my good fortune to meet him as we shared time during our respective radiation treatments. While I tried to support him as best I could, I realized that it was in fact Al who was supporting and teaching me, as only a great coach could have done. He struck me as a gentle man who was genuinely interested in me, even while enduring his own challenging and painful fight. I can honestly say I came to love him and looked forward to our occasional phone conversations over the past year, which he in fact initiated. My habit was to mark my calendar to call him at set intervals. Sadly, having read today of his passing, I realized I had marked my calendar to call during the upcoming week. I will sorely miss the chance to have another conversation as they always lifted me, while reminding me what a special guy Al was. Please know that I plan on attending his Mass and saying hello and goodbye to a man I will never forget.
God Bless you all.
