Andrew McWilliams Obituary

McWilliams Andrew Scott Passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023, at the age of 45, after a courageous 16-month battle with glioblastoma. Scott was a beloved husband, father, and colleague. A brilliant and dedicated doctor, Scott devoted his 20-year career to the Emergency Department at Pennsylvania Hospital. He was also a naturalist and accomplished herpetologist. Scott had a legendary sense of humor, was gifted in the art of conversation, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Scott found solace in nature, read voraciously, and spent meaningful time with family and friends. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved. Scott was born on October 27, 1977 in Philadelphia. He graduated from Germantown Friends School, the University of Pennsylvania, and Temple University's School of Medicine. Scott is survived by his wife Caroline Katzen McWilliams, his sons Miles and Carson, his brother Blair, and his mother Dallas. Scott was predeceased by his remarkable father, Al McWilliams. Scott will be terribly missed, but his spirit will always be felt by his family, friends, colleagues, and patients. A Memorial Service will be held at the Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott's honor can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society (https://www.braintumor.org)

Scott was always so interesting to talk to. I remember his sense of humor and his story about the oldest tree on his property. I was also interested in his sound proof room. It is my hope that the joyful memories of Scott be imbedded in the hearts and souls of those he touched. Rest In Peace. Caroline, Miles and Carson we will always be here for you..I know the burden is heavy, and the road is long and painful...but NEVER hesitate to come on by...love and hugs always, Trish, Sue and Liam

I considered it a honor and a privilege to know Scott for the short time that I have. I will miss our conversations and the positive presence of feeling I always had seeing him interact with his two sons.

I first met Scott during the start of the pandemic. I had recently moved to Philadelphia to coach at the fencing club where both Miles and Carson participate (I serve as Miles' primary instructor). Scott and Caroline were kind enough to allow me to occasionally visit once it was safe to do so as I did not have any family or friends in the city at this point. Scott and I shared a similar sense of humor. I always enjoyed talking with him while he was at tournaments for Miles, or picking him up from practices. Scott always had an amusing story or anecdote to tell,
