Barbara was truly an accomplished woman. However I will always remember the good times we had on many "Girls Night Out".

Barbara Bartlett (1936-2024)
Barbara M. Bartlett, 87, longtime resident of Cheltenham, PA and more recently at Cathedral Village, Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024.
She was a graduate of Cheltenham High School and Pennsylvania State University, where she was a proud Tri Delta member, and she completed graduate degrees at Arcadia and Temple Universities. Starting her life in Philadelphia and Cheltenham, she also resided in Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Marblehead, MA; and Hartsdale, NY, before returning to the Philadelphia area to raise her family.
Following in the footsteps of her mother Edna C. Hunter, she was a long-time and beloved teacher. She worked at Upper Merion High School between 1973 and 2007 where she taught English to generations of students. Upon her retirement, she undertook a new volunteer commitment of teaching English as a Second Language where she developed lasting friendships with her students from many different cultures.
She loved to volunteer and served on the Boards of the Cheltenham Adult School, the Friends of Glenside Library, and the Historical Commission of Cheltenham Township. She was an active member of the World Affairs Council, the International Visitors´ Council, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the National Constitution Center. She was also a long-time member of the Unitarian Society of Germantown.
She was an extraordinary friend-and had had weekly phone calls and regular get-togethers with her close friends over seven decades. She maintained regular correspondence with friends around the nation. She adapted to the new technologies and took an active interest in the lives of family and friends on Facebook. If she was your friend, you knew that she paid attention to your life and wanted to be a part of it. Her sons aspire to have the same commitment to their friends that she had to hers.
She loved swimming above all sports and was a regular at the Conklin Pool in Cheltenham. She spent summers in Ocean City, NJ since childhood and worked at the Sindia Restaurant during her college years. She instilled her love of the Jersey Shore in her grandchildren, who will always remember morning surrey rides on the boardwalk and evening trips to Wonderland, punctuated with fudge and Kohr's ice cream. She was a great reader and lover of books, and to the end looked forward to her Sunday book group at Cathedral Village. She enjoyed sharing her love for the great Philadelphia culinary traditions-cinnamon buns from the Danish Bakers, cold cuts from Michelfelders, caramels from Stutz´s, and the coleslaw from Ruhlings on Rising Sun Avenue.
She will be deeply missed by her two sons Chris and Tim (Julie) and her grandchildren Katie and Niko, as well as her brother Chris Hunter (Barbara) and nieces and nephews Elizabeth Gray (Kyle), Christopher Hunter (Mary Jane), and Caitlin Hunter. She maintained lifetime connections with her own cousins, Linda Cundey Kohler and Georgine Vensand, and is warmly remembered by her former husband David Bartlett.
Gifts in her honor can be made to the Friends of Glenside Library at cheltenhamlibraries.org/donate/.

I will cherish Barbara's memory. She and I were classmates from kindergarten thru 9th grade. Although we then went to different high schools we reconnected at Penn State. Later, at our 25th Penn State reunion, we met again and, as fellow book lovers and readers, continued our connection ever since, with frequent emails and letters, book recommendations and occasional lunches in Philadelphia. Barbara was a wonderful person with so many positive qualities that I'm confident that everyone who knew her will miss her. I know I will.

Barbara and I met in the library of Lenape Junior High School in Doylestown in 1963, where we were both teachers. We bonded immediately and were very close friends ever since. No matter where we lived, we were in frequent touch and saw each other whenever possible for 61 years. She even visited us when we lived in Italy. Through all those years, good times and bad, we were a part of each other's lives, keeping each other apprised of our personal situations and of our families.. She's leaving a big hole in my life..
Chris and Tim, you had a great mom and the way you handle your lives is evidence of that.
