After our son Dan died, my wife Kathy began receiving
signs from Dan. These signs always seemed to ease Kathy's grief. I was never so lucky.
Yesterday found me on Frankford Ave in the far Northeast of Philly. Returning home to Fox Chase, I decided to use Frankford Ave. - not my usual route home. At about the 9200 block of the Avenue I happened to glance to my left only to see the street sign that reads, BARRY ST, This became a sign to me. A sign more spiritual than demographic. I felt the warmth of Barry's friendship the rest of the ride home
and throughout the remainder of the day. Finally, I received a sign. A sign from my good friend Barry,
Thank you Barry.

Barry was a good leader but his fear hiking skills, especially when we went to PEEC with the 6th grade class left a lasting expression. He was a good guy who is surly missed by all. Rest In Peace My Friend. Buce and Sheila Barsky

Just learned of Barry's passing; what a wonderful man, mentor, and mensch--and what a deep loss to the Cheltenham community. We are so saddened to hear and sorry we did not know about the memorial service at EP. Our sincere sympathy to Hanne, Meeks, and Joanna.

Hanne,Joanna and Mikael.

...just a little yeast leavens the dough and makes it rise.
In this land of plenty we have so much for which to be thankful. Barry is the one for whom I am most thankful. As the steadfast roommate, a faithful friend and a fellow teacher he was "super." Barry became the yeast in my life in so many ways. Barry's influence made me a more accepting and better person, he helped me rise socially and professionally. I will always remember Brooks with a smile.
I grieve Barry's death, but I know he is at peace with his great parents and our God. My deepest sympathy to you. I am praying that God will ease your pain in your time of grief.

Barry was a true friend to all. He was a visionary. At Glenside, he created a totally independent, prescriptive math program for his 5th graders. Because of his insightful daily prescriptions for his students and thousands of mini-lessions, his Math class always achieved incredible results making years of progress during 5th grade. Barry also loved the environmental/science extravaganza he and his students designed yearly. Months of collaborative, hands-on learning preceded 3 days and 2 nights of lifelong memories at College Settlement Camp in Horsham! He particularly enjoyed the nightly campfire activities! Today 40 years later we call these these things Differentiated Instruction and Project Based learning. Barry was a tireless worker and truly respected by students, staff, and parents. His colleagues really appreciated his skill creating class lists. He met with 4th and 5th grade teachers having productive dialogue gathering critical information. After hundreds of hours considering every imaginable variable, his skillfully, crafted lists guaranteed every school year started off right! Brooks..you are missed and will always be in our hearts!

Barry was a teacher who loved his craft and enjoyed working with children as well as staff. He has left an imprint on many students lives and will be remembered for giving them the life skills they will use forever. He was a good friend and peer and I can only pray that he is finally at peace

My condolences. "Mr." Brucker was my 5th-grade homeroom teacher & social studies teacher at Elkins Park Middle School, 1985-'86. I remember him fondly. He had a self-deprecating sense of humor, e.g., referring to his bald head as the "Brucker Plains."

Barry Brucker (Mr. B, Brooks) was truly a great friend and a mentor to me. I met Barry through Matt Callahan and we began an excellent friendship. He was quite helpful to me when I needed some guidance in my life. He was raised on Levick Street in Northeast Philadelphia. He was the son of Hilda and Milt. I became very friendly with Barry's parents through the years. They were very nice to me as well. I worked with Milt in Port Richmond for a few years at Dave's Deli. Milt was a very funny man who knew the retail business very well. We worked for Larry at the Deli.
Barry and I lived together after my college years and up until I got married in 1979. During this period, Barry, who was a teacher, had a big influence on my decision to become a teacherl. I guess he saw some attributes in me that fostered this idea of me becoming a teacher. With his insistence, I entered Temple University's Master's Program and became a teacher myself. I went on to teach for 38 years. It was a good decision and I guess Barry perceived that from the very beginning. Barry is a Philly sports fan and that connection helped foster a great relationship between us. He loved Temple first and then the Big 5. Barry married Hanna Laursen and had two children (Joanna and Mikael). We remained friends with some contact as the years passed and I am very thankful for all that Barry did for me. One of Barry's best decisions was marrying Hanna Laursen, a great women. Barry....thanks!

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a teacher at Cedarwood and a parent of children at EP Middle School while Barry was an administrator. I had the utmost respect for him as an administrator and an understanding human being. His absence is a great loss to all of us.

We were very fortunate to have Barry in our lives. He was the kindest, most caring person. He will remain with us always, everyday, as long as we can remember.
