Brian P. Flaherty Obituary
Flaherty Brian P. Feb. 24, 1953 - October 6, 2025 Brian P. Flaherty, age 72, husband, father, grandfather, artist, and lawyer, died October 6, 2025 at his home in Philadelphia with his family by his side. Brian was Senior Counsel and former Shareholder and Counsel for Litigation at Cozen O'Connor. Prior to joining Cozen O'Connor he spent thirty years at Wolf Block. He was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was named in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of Commercial Litigation. He was active in the Philadelphia Bar Association and served as chair of its Professional Guidance Committee and a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility Committee. He was also a long standing member of the University of Pennsylvania American Inn of Court. Born in Norwood, MA, he was a graduate of Sharon High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he met his wife, Karen. He was an avid golfer, gardener, woodchuck hunter, staunch democrat and proud minimalist. He loved ice cream, crossword puzzles, and a well placed sardonic remark. He was endlessly curious and loved to read and express himself through his writing. He considered himself a lifelong learner. A life-long artist, he began taking classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2004, honing his skills in drawing, painting, and sculpture. He leaves us with a collection of art that we will celebrate and remember him by in the years to come. Most of all he deeply loved his family, embracing his role as family patriarch and adored 'Gramps'. Brian is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Lyons; a daughter, Sarah (Marcus Friedman), of Brooklyn, NY; sons, Nick (Jen Tepel) of Havertown, PA, and Matt, of Brooklyn, NY; brothers, Sean (Amy Levine) of Yardley, PA and Mark (Peggy Schader) of Brewster, MA; and his four beloved grandsons, Wyatt (8), Theodore (6), Meyer (5), and Isaac (2). A Celebration of Brian's Life will be held at Whitemarsh Country Club in Lafayette Hill, PA on Wednesday, October 22 at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Brian's name to the National Brain Tumor Society where a memorial donation page has been established in his honor.
