To Dennis' Family,

I was lucky enough to of met Dennis this summer while visiting my dad and brother at Boy Scout Camp. He was the epitome of a gentleman and a true model of what the Boy Scouts represent. While being stuck up there due to a storm, Dennis sat with my mother and me and ensured we were taken care of while still calmly and efficiently taking control of the situation. He was a wonderful person and I am so sorry for your loss, and the world's loss of such a kind and devoted man. My prayers go out to you and are always with Dennis in heaven. God bless.

I had just recently heard the news of Dennis taking over the "109 Reins" and I remember thinking PERFECT. Who better to represent "our generation" and bridge the gap to the next. Even though we hadn't see each other for many years, his impression on me was a lasting one. As my grandfather liked to say, he was a gentleman and a scholar, and his passing is one for which even us scouts could never truly, BE PREPARED.

My most humble sympathies to the Cruz family and all friends and relatives of Dennis.

I had the pleasure of growing up in Troop 109 with Dennis already being a leader. He was a constant figure in that Troop beside the other great men that helped to shape myself and so many other young men into the great people they are today.

I cannot express my complete sorrow over hearing of Dennis being taken from us. Dennis touched so many lives in Troop 109 and in so many other places during his life.

I may as well stop writing because I'll never be able to completely express how much this man meant to myself and so many others.

Dennis is and always was truly one of the good guys. Rest in Peace my friend.

God Bless You Dennis,
Yours In Scouting,
Mike Slag

A remarkable young man. I was impressed by his caring nature, talents, professional attitude and how focus he was on reaching his goals and caring for people.

Hard working young man, with a passion for music and work.
He was very concerned about his mother and brother and always included them in any plan.
I was his financial planner. I am honored to have known him.

I think and pray for him and his loving family.

Dear Pastor Cruz and Ms. Blanca,
I met Dennis at Darrel's Ordination.
I thought here is a well-versed young man. He knew the right words to say at the right time. I noticed that Pastor Cruz has the same quality. You can say that Dennis is the wind beneath Darryl's wings. You did a tremendous job in raising your sons. May you find some comfort in knowing that God is pleased.Look Up and Be Encouraged, God Bless.

To the Cruz family,

Please accept my sympathy for your tremendous loss. Dennis was a wonderful friend and co-worker. We worked together on projects at Kling in DC and working with him always made it easier, even when there was a tight deadline. He was such a great friend too. He talked me through several rough times in my life and gave me a solid shoulder to cry on. He loved his family more than anyone I've ever known and was always telling me stories about them. I thought it was so nice that he shared some gumdrops I made for him at Christmas with his family, that I couldn't resist when he asked me to make some of the lemon ones for his aunt. He loved you all so much. He was a great man and I feel blessed to have known him and called him my friend.

Dennis, I know you are up in heaven now looking down upon us. I ask you to protect our Scouts and their Families as they continue the great long traditions of Troop #109. As a member of the Troop, I always looked up to you and your leadership qualities; many times acting as a mentor to many scouts. You were always there to lend a hand with a merit badge or share a joke & story about a previous camping trip. Your time and devotion to the troop will be greatly missed. I was honored when I got promoted Detective to be assigned BADGE #109. This is the same number of the Troop that is responsible for teaching me the oath and motto; setting a path of values and morals to guide my life. You played a positive major role in not only my life, but everyone you have come in contact with over the years. It is an honor to call you a FRIEND. When we meet again maybe you could help me finish my Eagle Scout Project and receive those wings you so proudly wear!! Your friend in Scouting! Detective Jay P. Bowen #109-Philadelphia District Attorney's Office-Homicide Unit.

Dennis and I met and became friends at Drexel and later had the good fortune to work together at Kling. He even did me the honor of DJing my wedding. In all the time I knew him, he was never without a smile and a word of encouragement when it was needed most. Be proud and draw strength from the knowledge that there is not a person whose path was blessed enough to have crossed with Dennis', whose life was not improved immeasurably for having known him. While he will be greatly missed, he will always hold a place in our hearts. My deepest sympathies go out to you.

Mrs. Cruz, Darryl, and family,
What a gift it has been to be Dennis' friend for the past 22 years. His kindness, loyalty and fun-loving nature are just a few of his traits which I will always remember. Dennis didn't do anything "half-way"...that was evidenced by his devotion to his family and friends, his dedication to Troop 109 and the scouting movement, his unsurpassed work ethic, and his fierce loyalty to his favorite past-times, including rooting for his beloved Philly teams.
I always say that participating in scouts, where we met as kids, was one of the best things I had ever done; meeting Dennis was one of the primary reasons!
I will miss you my friend.

To the Family of Dennis,
My nephew, Matt and I only knew Dennis for a short time through Boy Scout Troop 109, But in that short time, we came to realize what a truly special person Dennis was. As a new member of Troop 109, Matt looked up to Dennis and learned much from him. We both will truly miss his smiling face and wonderful spirit. However, we believe that he is now in a better place. We are truly sorry for your loss, and, we will keep Dennis and family in our thoughts and prayers.
God Bless.

Heart flet sympathies to the Cruz Family from the Higgins Family.

I have known Dennis since he joined St. Helena's Troop 109 23 years ago. I have always marveled at his complete devotion to his family. Dennis recently became the Scoutmaster and on his first camping trip you could already see his care and devotion to "His Kids".

Dennis sets an example we should all follow. Rest in Peace my friend!

God Bless you! I have the pleasure of serving the young men of Boy Scout Troop 109 with Dennis where he showed great leadership & enthusiasm! Although I insisted that Dennis address me by my first name, he respectfully continued to address me as "mister," something that I will always remember! What a great person, I hope that our Troop will continue to teach and practice the values that Dennis exemplified!

To the Family and Friends of Dennis (Mr. Crus), I have worked with Dennis for many years and he would always refer to as Mr. Romaniello and I would always say to him you do not need to call Mr., So that is why I started callimg him Mr. Crus and not long after that it turned out to be may greeting every time I would see him. Little did I know I had met not only a friend but someone who realy did respect me as a Mr. Romaniello.
Like every thing else he did he always gave more then was exspected. As time went on I came to be come good friends with Dennis. When I recenly had gotten Married in June I asked Dennis to be my DJ and he said he would love to do it but only if he could do it for free.
It turns out he saved our wedding day because all the music that had been planed for the Wedding had been misplaced during the setting up and Dennis and Darryl 10 min. befor the wedding, both calmed my wife down and re-arranged the music selections in min.'s and it turned out to be perfect. Little did I know it would be the last time I would laugh with him. I believe in God and truly believe Dennis was ment to be at that wedding and was born to be and Angle of God. We sould all learn that life is short and we sould all live and give like Dennis. Marguerite and my self will miss you Dennis but have also learned from you. We will give and live out our lives in the foot steps of you. God Bless you and your family and rest in peace.

We are so sad to hear about your loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. As you know, Dennis was a unique child of God. He was the DJ for our wedding and he cared so much about each song selection and made sure that the entire event went as we had planned. Dennis is with the Lord now smiling down from heaven with a heart full of kindness and compassion. May the peace of Christ be with all of you during this profoundly sad time.
