I never met him, but he seems like a wonderful man and I wish I had had time with my grandfather.

I am a medical doctor and worked with Ed at Conemaugh's Ebensburg Healthfirst. Ed was a kind person and a good doctor. Ed was the first person I sent an email to when I bought my first computer --- he apparently gave me his email address. I remember Ed responded to my email to him saying, "Isn't this fun!"

As I again see Ed's photo I reflect on many positive interactions with him at the Ebensburg Center in Pennsylvania. As a staff development specialist I had the responsibility of conducting professional development for staff. I remember Ed asking if he could enroll in my public speaking class as he suffered from "stage fright." This surprised me as it did not seem congruent with his persona. He was a great man.

You will forever be missed.
Visited the cemetery where Ed's ashes will be laid to rest. Such a peaceful place. He was my answer man for nearly 18 years. I miss him.

Dr. Shertz never lost his temper even if I called him in the middle of the night about a patient. He would say what do you think Bev.

Dr. Shertz will be missed greatly by his co-workers and friends here in Somerset who have become like family. His presence will be felt here for a long time to come because he has left such a long list of wonderful qualities - perseverance, kindness, humor, wealth of knowledge in medicine and life, and his consideration of others. He was always available for questions and used them as teaching opportunities. Many times I have went to him and he always had time, once even calling him on Thanksgiving when he wasn't on call. And he still answered with kindness.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Dr. Shertz was a very kind and sweet man. A very caring doctor whom cared deeply for his patients. Anytime I had to call him about one of his patients, he always took the time to listen. I admired him, after all the health issues that came his way, it never stopped him. He always pushed on to take care of his patients. I will miss you Dr. Shertz. RIP

I will miss you Ed very much. Loved his sense of humor and his ability to make you smile. He never placed burden on those around him but was always willing to help. He was a caring physician and more importantly a caring human being. I thank God for putting people like Ed in my life but they always seem to leave to soon. Godspeed Dr. Shertz.

Ed will always hold a special place in my heart as a boss, coworker, and most importantly a good friend! He was a brilliant man loved by all that knew him! He always took the time to explain things to us and would even challenge you at times to rationalize what you already knew to come up with the answer. I looked to him for guidance many times and he never let me down. His patients loved him and he always treated them with kindness and spent time with them never making them or anyone feel like they had anything less than 100% of his attention. We miss him so much at Oakwood; its just not the same without him. I love you Ed and I thank you for all you've done for Oakwood ~ for the lives you've touched by your kindness and generosity. I pray for the family as I know losing this man is beyond painful for them. RIP my dear friend. I will cherish your memory
