Dear Entire Hoey Family,

The Harrell family, formerly of Elm Avenue, wishes to express our sincere sympathy in the loss of your husband, son and brother. Gene will be fondly remembered as a very friendly and caring young man who lived 2 doors from our house. When I told my older son, Rich, of his passing last night, he stopped for a minute and then said, "Oh, the nice guy who used to play wiffle ball with us in the street, he was very nice to us growing up." I remember one day in particular Gene came down my driveway and said that he had something for Rich and Vin and would I allow them to accept it. He then came back with a newly painted bright red wagon which he had painted himself and gave it to the boys. They were thrilled and I could not help thinking what a nice gesture. They got a lot of mileage out of that wagon and believe they earned their first dollar with that wagon delivering The Journal. Mrs. Hoey, this one is for you, Rich also said, "I remember Mrs. Hoey's big maroon station wagon and one day while she was backing into a parking space in front of her house, she blew out a tire on a cracked sewer pipe. I was standing on the pavement watching her park and it blew me right onto her lawn. " We laughed as we remembered fond memories of such nice neighbors from Elm Avenue.

May your faith help you through these very trying days.

Sincerely, Dick, Sally, Rich and Vince Harrell
