Frank Pepe Obituary

Pepe Frank A., Ph.D. June 20, 2023, Frank Albert Pepe, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at his home in Philadelphia, PA at the age of 92. Frank was born on May 21, 1931 in Schenectady, NY. He graduated from Union College (BS in Chemistry) in 1953 and Yale University (Ph.D. in Chemistry) in 1957. He taught and conducted research in the Anatomy Department of The University of Pennsylvania for nearly four decades, eventually chairing the department for 13 years. Frank was the beloved uncle and friend to so many; his joyful spirit never failed to bring light and laughter to a room. Throughout his life, he enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing, traveling, and organizing family reunions. His devotion to his family was tremendous, and his smile, positivity, and laugh will be sorely missed. He was the glue that kept his far-flung family together through the years, both out of his great love for them and in honor of his beloved sister, Mary P. (Pepe) DeMarco, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his father Rocco Pepe, mother Margherita (Ruggiero) Pepe, and nephew Paul R. DeMarco He is survived by his nephews Bruce A. DeMarco (Laurie), Brian A. DeMarco (Kara), Michael A. DeMarco (Carla) and many great-nephews and great-nieces. Int. will be held privately. monti-ragofuneralhome.com

Our deepest sympathy to the family. Though it has been many years since we saw Frank, maybe the last big family reunion in Saratoga, it was always great visiting with him. He was a remarkable man. May your memories be your comfort.

My deepest condolences and love to the family. I have only known the Doctor for one month shy of a year....in that time, twice a week he did 40 repetitions of several exercises-yes he lifted weights. He loved bicep curls (5lbs)...if he thought I left them out he would question me, I couldn't argue-so sometimes I gave him bicep curls twice. He was an amazing person with big energy and I am just so blessed and honored to have known Dr. Frank Pepe.....Thank you
