Most of my insights into Joel come from the birthday party circuit, as our daughters are classmates. At Emma's pool party, I remember being struck by the very appealing combination of earnestness and joy with which he interacted with his children. I am profoundly saddened that I won't get to know him better in the years to come.

Eron,
I only had the pleasure of meeting Joel a couple of times, but it was clear what a kind person he was. I am so sorry for your loss and for the loss to our community. I know he touched the lives of many; here in Philly, in Detroit and in Chicago.
My thoughts are with you.

Dear Eron:
No words can express my sympathy. I think your father stated it best: you are the brightest star in his (and in many) universes right now and you will have to summon courage and strength to now shine forward for both you and for Joel. You are one of the few people I know who have the capacity for such a tall task. Please lean on the many friends and family who love you so much for the strength and support that you need. If there is anything I can do, never hesitate to call.

Dear Eron and Family,
I met Joel at Wharton and had an opportunity to briefly experience his amazing intellect, work ethic and overall way of being. I am keeping you and your children in my thoughts and prayers. I remember meeting you all when you and Joel welcomed a couple of us (his project teammates) into your home for Seder dinner. As the Rabbi mentioned during the service yesterday, Joel struck me as a person who always embraced those around him. I was genuinely touched by your family's warm environment, at a time when my family was so far away. My condolences for your most terrible loss.

Dear Eron and Family,
As a fellow classmate, Cohortmate, and ...most importantly...friend of Joel from Wharton, I can say that he was one of the greatest men I have ever met. It is rare to find someone as bright, successful, and personable, yet as humble and selfless as Joel. He will be sorely missed.

Dr. Joel was so special. Marty and I were so lucky to spend time with him while he was doing his residency at Childrens Memorial Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Joel was working at Glenbrook Hospital when my father was admitted for a bacterial infection. He was by our side giving us wonderful medical and family care.
