My dear friend, I blessed to be his neighbor for over 20 years. Friends for 12 years. Mr John for me and my family. John never new that I needed him as much as he thought he needed me. One thing I´m gonna take from him is how thankful and grateful he was for the little things. His "buena notte", and his kind words.

I was a colleague of John's for 8 years. We shared a love of teaching, doing crossword puzzles, and corny jokes. We remained "email buddies" after I left North Catholic in 1989 and for the past 32 years have shared the corniest, punniest, jokes found on line. He always sent me e-cards for every holiday that came down the pike and I shall miss his "presence" in my life. My sincere condolences to his family.

Lord Spikington:
"Questions, comments, vituperative remarks?" Mr. Coia said those words ALL the time which forced us to look up (in a dictionary lol) what the heck he meant. And what an eclectic reading list. I had the pleasure of exchanging a few emails with Mr. Coia the last few years and I will treasure them even more now. Blessed journey, Sir...and thank you.

Mr. Coia was a wonderful teacher and was the moderator of our chess team. He had a brilliant sense of humor. I got lucky one game and had a rare victory over him. He cleared the board of the rest of the pieces with his head, laughing and congratulating me. A wonderful man and mentor. RIP. Dana Shafie, class of `85.
