I teach school in a small Kansas town. I always read "Something For Joey" to my students. One year I had three boys who wanted to find more information about the family and the book. I took them to the local community college after school on Halloween to go through the microfilm to look at articles in Sports Illustrated about John's career. The microfilm did not turn up anything, and they were sorely disappointed. I came home on a wing and prayer and dialed information for Upper Darby and asked for the number to John Cappelletti. When I dialed the number your dad answered the phone and helped with the names of some Philadelphia newspapers for the kids to try. He talked to me for awhile. My class was so excited the next day! I spent my plan period calling a newspaper in Philadelphia, I talked to some reporter and he was really intrigued by these kids being so excited about the book, he sent us a huge packet of articles. I had to make a copy of them for every kid in the class. I just bought a new copy of the book tonight and found news of your father's death online. I thank him for helping me and a class of fifth graders, who got to know your family through that book.

Dear Cappelletti Family -
I had the good fortune of talking with Mr. C a couple of years ago about possibly writing a story on your fine family for the Catholic Standard and Times. We spoke on the phone for about 30 minutes and I wish it could have been longer. Just a fine man who lived an exemplary life.
I was on a retreat when he passed and just learned of this tonight. No doubt, Joey welcomed him into heaven!
Warm wishes for continued healing.

Dear Mrs Cappelletti and Family; There must be a reunion in Heaven and an Angel watching over us all. I just found this article. God Blessed you...with a warm loving family. It's a LIFE that may only be lived by dying...but so difficult to let go. "Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face; For we know in part and we prophecy in part, but when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I thought as a child. I reasoned as a child...but when I grew up..I put childish ways behind me....Now remains Faith, Hope and Love....but the greatest of these is LOVE." My deepest condolences to Mrs. Cappelletti, John, and and the family. I first met Mr. and Mrs. Cappelletti at Sea World in San Diego while they were visiting John in the late 70's. His quiet strength and dignity reminded me of my own father who I lost a few years ago. You now have your own personal saint in Heaven. God Bless all of you and may the Ressurection of Easter comfot you at this time.

I am originally from Upper Darby, went to Bonner graduated in 1982 and have a brother that graduated in 1972. My Dad used to take me to see John play for Bonner back then. I just wanted to express my sympathy to the Cappelletti's. God Bless.

To the Cappelletti Family, I'll always be thankful to Mr. Capp as he spent the day with the students of Springfield High School in 2002.Four Hundred of our students just read " Something for Joey" and John Sr came in to the school for hours and answered questions about Joey and the rest of the family. John Jr even woke up early for a video conference from California. John sr took me on a tour of their home and I regret never keeping in touch with this great man. May God Bless the Cappelletti family and may John Sr rest in peace. To the rest of the family, thank you for sharing your father.

To the Cappelletti Family,
I too didn't know your family except for the movie. And yesterday when I read the news I thought the same thing as another guest who said it beautifully"...if Gerald O'Loughlin portrayed even a portion of the man that he was then Mr. Cappelletti was a wonderful man...".
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your family is truly an example of what family should be. May God bless you.

I didn't know your husband and father except through the book and movie about Joey. If Gerald O'Loughlin portrayed even a portion of the man that he was then Mr. Cappelletti was a wonderful man. I have often wondered what happened to the rest of the Cappelletti family and now we know the end story of one of the players. Please know that your family story touched our hearts way back then and we think of your family at this sad time. God bless you and yours.

Anna, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
John, was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. I will always remember him telling me when his feet gave him trouble that he was like a cadillac with bad tires. He will be missed.
God Bless,
