I never met him, but I used the gold leaf his (family) business made, and it was an honest and honorable product. I like to think that that represents the generations of Hastings who produced it. I also feel I know him a little because I read the book he wrote about his family and the company - he actually started as an apprentice and worked his way up the ranks to become president, rather than being handed the company's reins. Sounds like a neat guy.

Dear Cricket, Kim, and Mark, I am deeply moved to hear of the passing of your husband and father. Mr. Hastings (as I called him), was dear to my heart and an important role model. It meant so much to me that he and Cricket came to visit me in Maine, that I was able to introduce them to my own young son. It has been my honor to know him (and you, too, Cricket). I send my love to you all. Sonia (Susu) Turanski

My sincere condolences to the family. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn, sustain your family during this difficult time - Isaiah 61:1, 2.
