To this day thinking about Jack there’s still an empty feeling in me I probably will never get over. There’s some sadness when I think about Jack and the fact that he is not here then I see his legacy in his children and realize what a great job this man along with Mary Lou did in his short time on earth.

Not many days go by that you are not thought of or on our minds. Occasionally a story is told of a memory of working together or a funny occurrence or one of those great trips we took together. You will never be forgotten and I will always think of you as my brother, the brother that I miss so much. Times are tough right now and even tougher without you to talk to. I know that you would have encouraged us all to look at the brighter things in life.

The 10 years that we all have been missing you has not diminished the pain of your loss. Your name still comes up quite often and you are fondly remembered by all who ever had the good fortune to know you. I'm so honored to have worked alongside you in the PFD and especially to be part of your family whom we both adore. All is well but you are surely missed and I will never forget you my brother.

When I Must Leave You

by Helen Steiner Rice

When I must leave you

for a little while,

Please do not grieve

and shed wild tears

And hug your sorrow

to you through the years,

But start out bravely

with a gallant smile;

And for my sake

and in my name

Live on and do

all the things the same,

Feed not your loneliness

on empty days,

But fill each waking hour

in useful ways,

Reach out your hand

in comfort and in cheer

And I in turn will comfort you

and hold you near;

And never, never

be afraid to die,

For I am waiting

for you in the sky!

Mrs. Haughney and family,

I had the privelege of getting to know the love, strength and courage of Mr. Haughney through Maureen a little while before his passing. There are not enough words to describe Mr. Haughney but I know that he lives on through you and your children.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Marylou,Denise,Rosemary,Maureen, John and Michael,

What an honor it was to have served in the P.F.D. with Jack Haughney. He was a brave, tough career firefighter who loved the challanges and rewards of our noble profession; It was a privilege to have worked by his side. Above all else, Jack was a great husband and father, who adored his wife and family, and was in turn, loved by all of us who were lucky enough to share in his happy life. Jeannie and I will think of you often Jack, and your family will remain close to us always. May God watch over you. Rest in peace dear friend.

Jack Haughney was a beautiful man and I miss Jack. Jack was a great Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Nephew, Friend and Firefighter. The pride and love that was written all over His face when he spoke of his wife Marylou, His children Denise, Rosemary, Maureen John & Mike. I will miss breakfast at the dinner. The rides in his jeep just driving around because that what Jack loved. The rides to get coffee and it had to be dunkin donuts coffee and not just any dunkin donuts it had to be the right one. And just sitting and talking. I received a card that said the following.

A life well lived is a precious gift of hope and strength and grace from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place. It’s filled with moments sweet and sad, with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy of joy and pride and pleasure, a loving, lasting memory our grateful hearts will treasure. On the inside they had wrote, Joe we are so sorry for your loss but happy that you were fortunate enough to have such a wonderful friend. I am truly blessed to have know Jack Haughney and I will miss Him so so much.

I Love You Jack Uncle

Dear Tim, Chris, Patrick & Ryan:

Jack was a great guy. The few times that we were priviliged to meet and speak with him, his true character was evident. Jack was a true hero. It takes a special kind of person to put his own life on the line in order to help others -- and that's what Jack, and his brother firefighters, did everyday! We will continue to keep Jack in our prayers, and we will also pray that God gives you the strength to get through this difficult time.

Jack was a really great uncle, I loved him and he loved me. He made me laugh, especially when he drove the remote control car into the pool. We always had fun together. Jack always cheered me up when I was sad. I will always remember when we were on vacation in Boston when he came into our motel room with snacks and soda because he knew I wanted to have a party. We had a really fun time. I always made him laugh too.

Jack, I will always still love you and will miss you. I wish you didn’t have to go. Love,
