John Kemper

Kemper John S., Jr. On October 27, 2022. Loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 94. John was a graduate of Roxborough High School, and the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in electrical engineering. He was drafted into the army shortly after starting his career with the Philadelphia Electric Company where he was the lead of the radiological testing team at the Nevada and Anewetok atomic weapons test sites. He returned to PECO after his service to his country and continued his illustrious career with key roles that included Plant Superintendent of Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Unit 1 responsible for operation and plant start up. He then moved on to various Senior Vice President roles with responsibilities for engineering, research, production, and nuclear construction. His proudest accomplishment was the construction and startup of Limerick Generation Station. He was elected the Delaware County Engineer of the Year in 1986 and received the same honor for the Delaware Valley in 1987. His commitment to his community was demonstrated by his membership on the Concord Township Planning Commission, the Board of Supervisors, and the township sewer board. John married his high-school sweetheart Doris and they were together for 70 years. They raised a family, enjoyed summers at the Jersey shore, and many family ski trips and visits to national parks. After John retired, he and Doris traveled the globe, and doted on their grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Doris (nee Turner), sons Keith (Janet Brown) and Chris (Pam), and grandchildren Jessica, Alison, Claire, John, and Lauren. Services will be held at the chapel at Maris Grove, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills at 10:30 A.M. on November 7. The internment at West Laurel Hill Cemetery will be private.
