SHIRLEY
JOHN J. "JACK," 79, of Lansdale, on July 16, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Carol Shirley and is survived by his children, Lisa, Richard, and Brian and 5 grandchildren.
Mr. Shirley was employed with the Phila. Inquirer as manager of their Employee Assistance Program (EAP), retiring in 2000. He then started the EAP at the Times Leader (Wilkes-Barre, PA) where he worked until 2005. Visitation will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 19 at HUFF & LAKJER FUNERAL HOME, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. A second Visitation will begin 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 20 at Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Calvary Cem., Conshohocken.

I'm writing you with great sadness over Jack's death. I met Jack through our affiliation with EAPA. He was a wonderful colleague and great friend. I know he cared greatly for the clients he worked with. Many lives were touched by him. He always went the extra mile to help someone in need, especially those suffering from addiction. His goodness will always remain in my heart. I know his memory of love and service will always live on. God bless you Jack and may you know eternal peace.

You created my fondest memories on our Canada fishing trips with Andy and Jerry....Summers down the shore with the special Easter treat of going to Hunts and Morey's pier on the Boardwalk.
Your unconditional love and example of integrity have impacted so many...with mountains being moved by your refusal to give up...with me in particular. Dad...I miss you so much...life is not the same...your reassuring words of love and hope are no longer just a call away..that brings more tears, and the feeling of being a little boy who just wants his Dad back.

My sympathy and prayers go out to the family. Jack will be greatly missed. He was a mentor to so many, not only in the Employee Assistance Professionals Association, but also in the guidance of many individuals through recovery.
