Joe, we will miss you! As a teenager in South Philly in the mid 1960s you were viewed as a legend, an Icon! You played on one of the greatest high school basketball teams in the history of Philadelphia Basketball, the 1965 Bishop Neumann Pirates. You were one of the fiercest competitors I have ever seen play basketball. You could shoot, pass, rebound, dribble and play defense better than almost anyone in the 1960s. Your basketball IQ was off the charts. On Saturday afternoons at 16th and Jackson playground, you would play half court, four on a team and if someone was lucky enough to get on your team, they played all afternoon, never losing. I will never forget you Joe Skins!

I met Joe "JR" when I was a young Fireman when we were both "Shanghai'd" to E69/L26 in the early eighties. He was good firefighter and an even better person. He opened up "his mother's" home to me, inviting me over for "macaroni dinner". That's when I was informed that all shapes of pasta are macaroni and bread had a hard crust; sliced bread was "American bread". They were some DELICIOUS Italian dinners. We both did get to serve at busier fire companies and had outstanding careers. JR always bragged about his family and how very proud he was of his children. Rest in peace, JR. I speak about of you often.
