Joe,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on the passing of your father. I found out this weekend when my Mom told me. Although I have been gone from the neighborhood for over 23 years I still feel a connection. Upon hearing of your dad's passing it reminded me of a much simpler time when we were kids growing up in what we thought was the best place on earth. As we get older ourselves we realize how fortunate we are to have known men like your Dad.

Dear Yannone Family,
Charlene & I were very sorry to read about Joe. We owned R&W Jewelers, 700 Sansom St for over 40 years and a day didn't go by without a visit from Joe. He always protected us from any strangers that looked suspicious. We called him "Hollywood Joe " with all his disguises. Miss you " BIG JOE"

Dear Yannone Family,
I was very saddened to hear about Joe's passing. It has been many years since I remembered his name and it brought back many fond memories of the good old days back on Jewelers Row during its heyday.
I had the great pleasure of working on the Row out of high school during the late seventies and early eighties, when it was at its best. Joe was among those who made it a memorable time for me as a young girl seeing the world from 7th and Sansom. There was surely plenty to see and experience and Joe was one of the best. I talked to him all the time. All of the officers who worked with him at that time were a special group and I remember them as well. I remember Jimmy the shoe shine man, the UPS man, everyone was special down there at that time. I remember Joe's skull ring and his antics. It was a time in my life that I wish never ended.
It has been a long time and seeing Joe's face in the article is exactly what he looked like when I knew him. He could have been in the movies or on Law and Order. I can't believe he was 80 because I had to think back how many years ago it was for me. I was in my 20s and now I'm almost 50, so he was in his 50s then. Time does fly by, but memories never leave.
Thanks Joe for being a part of my special memories. I'm sorry for your loss, but he has left behind so much good and that never goes away.
My prayers to all who knew him and loved him and will miss him.
Always, Anna M.
